Thursdays Thoughts: Vampires

So Vampires we have seen them in everything from books, movies, and tv shows.  What is it about vampires that makes the girls swoon and the guys want to be like them.

With the story of the vampire you have so many different kinds.  From they can go out in to the day time but if they get caught in direct sunlight they sparkle.  To if they go into the sunlight they will burst into flame.  To if they have a magic ring they can go into the sun without issue.  To the sun doesn't really bother them unless they are in it for a long amount of time, but then all it does is make them sick.

I started reading the Vampire Kisses books by Ellen Schreiber and fell in love with them.  (review will post when I'm done with the series. Which should be in a few days.

Ellen went back to the first vampires Dracula etc. The only thing that I'm not sure of was could those vampires enter your home without being invited? If you know let me know lol!

Well out of all the stories past and present which one do you like the best?  Is it the Vampire Diaries who can go into daylight with a ring and pretty much can do anything we can and more.  They can eat. drink, do something I'm not typing, and more.  But they can't enter your home unless invited.

Or is it the Twilight vampires who can also see the light of day.  However you will be tossed back to the 70's with the sparkles.  They can't eat as we found out in Midnight Sun. And that other thing I'm not typing will most likely end in your death.  (Unlike Bella when it happened to her).

So let me know what story you like the most.

Im giving away one Ecopy/Print copy of book 9 of the Vampire Kisses book due out in May!  So follow and comment!  If you follow via GFC,Twitter,Network, linkey you will get one point pre follow.  And if you take my button you will get an extra 10 points.

Im not using rafflecopter for this one. But I'm adding up points.  So make sure you add your points and don't forget your email address.

Ok before I get into my review. I wanted to tell you guys a story about a blogger (thats me!) who tried everything she could to get this book!  So I searched Netgalley without any luck. I found not less than 15 tours that were doing this book and they were either full or decided that my site wasn't good enough to tour with them. (sometimes being pagan has its drawl backs) but all in all my search was not in vain.  A tour host of my site Hollow Tours found a site that had it and she pleaded with them for the book herself.  So I went over to Edelweiss and searched for the book and found it.  I didn't know what to put so I copied my Netgalley profile into that and told them that I have tried everything short of stalking someone who has the book and ripping it from their knocked out body lol.

I wasn't given much hope that I would get this book but then the email came.  I was guessing it was going to say that I had been denied access but when I opened it and it said I was approved I about peed my pants.

So I downloaded it to my kindle and started reading!

I finished the book in two days.  Even ended up reading one page 5 times. (Not due to the book, But due to that I'm sick)  I LOVED the book!  I more than loved the book!  I loved the clothes and everything!  I would love to know more about the world they live in.  But that would be the only thing that would entice me to up my rating to beyond what I have.  Which is 5 Stars.  I can't wait for the next one!  And hope I don't have to knock someone out to get it. lol.

Monday Note!

So over the weekend I ended up catching a bug.  So now I have been dealing with temps ranging from 99.4 all the way to 102.3  lucky me.

So I thought well I guess ill get some reading in.  Ya that didn't work.  I had gotten the Selection by Kiera Cass from Edelweiss and ended up reading 1 page 5 times before I understood what was going on.  I did get through it though.  So That book review will be posted soon!  It got 5 Stars by the way!  I can't wait for the next one!

So after finishing up that book yesterday I thought well I have a ton of print books that I need to see if I have in ebook so I can get rid of them.  So that is what I have been doing for the past hour and a half. And I know have two good size boxes to take to the used book store.

So on with the Update!

What I finished

Skylark- by: Meagan Spooner This one I read half of it and had to put it down. I might pick it back up later to see if it gets better as I hate not finishing a book.

The Selection - by: Kiera Cass This one was wonderful read it in two days. Cant wait for the next one.

What I Started

Well right now I'm going to finish going through my print books but I think that the next book I'm going to start is one of mine.  Something I don't have to review and I'm just reading for fun.  (don't worry a review will be posted for the book)

Except the Queen- by: Jane Yolen this book like so few others is not available as an ebook. So reading it in print.

TBR

I still have a few things I need to read for review.

Ashen Winter by: Mike Mullin

Book Description

October 16, 2012
It’s been over six months since the eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano. Alex and Darla have been staying with Alex’s relatives, trying to cope with the new reality of the primitive world so vividly portrayed in Ashfall, the first book in this series. It’s also been six months of waiting for Alex’s parents to return from Iowa. Alex and Darla decide they can wait no longer and must retrace their journey into Iowa to find and bring back Alex’s parents to the tenuous safety of Illinois. But the landscape they cross is even more perilous than before, with life-and-death battles for food and power between the remaining communities. When the unthinkable happens, Alex must find new reserves of strength and determination to survive.

Temptation by: Karen Ann Hopkins

Book Description

June 26, 2012 A Temptation Novel
Your heart misleads you.  That's what my friends and family say.
But I love Noah.
And he loves me.

Blackwood by: Gwenda Bond

Book Description

September 4, 2012 Strange Chemistry
On Roanoke Island, the legend of the 114 people who mysteriously vanished from the Lost Colony hundreds of years ago is just an outdoor drama for the tourists, a story people tell. But when the island faces the sudden disappearance of 114 people now, an unlikely pair of 17-year-olds may be the only hope of bringing them back.

Miranda, a misfit girl from the island's most infamous family, and Phillips, an exiled teen criminal who hears the voices of the dead, must dodge everyone from federal agents to long-dead alchemists as they work to uncover the secrets of the new Lost Colony. The one thing they can't dodge is each other.

Blackwood is a dark, witty coming of age story that combines America's oldest mystery with a thoroughly contemporary romance.

TGIF: WoW

So what is world of warcraft?  Is it just for 30 year old men in their moms basements?  Is it for just teens?

Nope its for everyone!

I started playing this about a month ago and now have more than 10 characters also known as toons on the computer game.

I never thought that I would EVER be interested in playing something like this.  How surprised I was when not myself, but my husband and now our 7 year daughter are also playing.

World of Warcraft, often referred to as WoW, is a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game(MMORPG) set in the Warcraft universe. It is developed by Blizzard Entertainment and contains 3expansion packs: TBC World of Warcraft: The Burning CrusadeWotLK World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich KingCataclysm World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria. The initial release is now sometimes know as "vanilla WoW" or "classic WoW".
As of 2010, World of Warcraft has more than 12 million monthly subscribers,[1][citation needed] and currently holds the Guinness World Record for the world's largest and most popular MMORPG.[2] It also continues its further story development throughout its franchising, other than online media, such as Warcraft novelscomicsmangaRPG booksTCG, and board games.

It is very addictive and fun!  I am posting this today wondering if any of my readers play?  If so comment and let me  know. The following will be the items that I will be giving away!

First prize will be: 1 mount from the WoW store of your choice
Second prize will be: 1 code for two months free service

Thursday Thoughts: The Hunger Games

Ok so the Hunger Games movie has been in theaters for a while now.  I would like to know what you all liked and didn't like about the movie vs. the book!

Here is my list:

I loved that we got to see a little bit about the capital.  Things that in the book you didn't know.  As the book is set in the POV of nothing but Katniss it makes the movie much better.  I look at it this way.  In a book you are just that person but in a movie you are more like a goddess looking down on everyone seeing everything that is going on.

The changes that they made didn't make the movie any less than the book.  I know they cut a lot out.  But as far as I'm concerned they did a wonderful job.  I think the movie people learned a lot when they did Harry Potter and Twilight.  They learned that there are things you HAVE to do to make the movie live up to the book.

The one thing that I didn't like was the relationship with Katniss and Cinna.  I think all in all that it didn't feel like they gave them enough time to have one.

The other thing I didn't like was Haymitch.  I don't think they started out with his charter the right way.  I mean ya he looked drunk but it didn't seem the same as in the book.

So what did you like and not so much like.

And were any of the actors not right for the part?

Patch Tuesday: Whats on Sale?

So as ANY WoW player knows.  Tuesdays are patch days.  Its the days that you have a 50 50 chance to get to play. And if you are a HARD CORE player then it really puts a dampen on your day.  But like anything good you need to do it in moderation.  To much of a good thing can still be bad.

So this Patch day I am giving you all a widget with sale kindle books!  Have fun!

Monday Note!

So last week was BUSY!  I ended up kicking someone out of my life that I thought was a friend and finding out that they stole crap from me.

My husband is now sick with a summer cold (my the Great Goddess I hope the kids don't get it) and it seems I might be catching it as well.  Yay me (cries)

So all in all last week will be rated a 3 on the scale of bad weeks.

I hope this one is better.

So on with the list!

Last week I finished and posted reviews for the following!

The Girl in the Steel Corset and The Girl in the Clockwork Collar

Both books are by Kady Cross
My review for these books will post in May.

The first is Skylark by Meagan Spooner  Love that cover

The Next one is Ashen Winter (book two) by Mike Mullin But to read this one I need to track down a copy of Ashfall.

The last book to finish is So Far Away by. Meg Mitchell Moore.

Friday Reads: Used Books

So I LOVE the used bookstore!  What about you?  Here in Florida we have a few where I live. But there is one!  That just go beyond what a used bookstore is.  They always seem to get the REALY REALY GOOD BOOKS!  Especially the Teen/YA books!

In the past I have found so much stuff at used book stores and yard sales.  I have found ARC's (Advance Reading Copies) at yard sale as well.

Recently I have found these book!

Paid $.500 for this book and it just came out in March!  OF THIS YEAR!

The other one was out in 2010 but It a SIGNED COPY! So I almost never find those.

This one is signed by both the authors!  How cool is that?

I paid $5.00 for this one to!

So what is the coolest find that you have found at a used bookstore or a yardsale?

Guest Post with C. Bailey Sims

by C. Bailey Sims

Title: Candlewax

About The Book: 384 pages

Expected publication: April 3rd 2012

Published by: Terabyte Press

A medieval masterpiece of adventure, romance and horror, younger readers of Paolini and Cashore will gobble up this award-winning debut.

About The Book:
An Ancient Prophecy. A Powerful Relic. An Insatiable Evil. When all three converge, the fate of every living thing will be in peril.

All her life Catherine had hoped to see a fairrier cat. No book, no scroll provided to her by her tutors had ever mentioned this legend, much to her frustration, and now-at the worse possible time-she was getting her wish. Only, in her wish the cat wasn't about to kill her.

A 732-year-old fairrier cat the size of a horse has killed his fair share of hunters. Driven to the brink of extinction for the supernatural powers of his coat, is he indeed the last of his kind?

Sheltered, 16-year-old Catherine is about to find out. Unwitting heir to the Ancient Onyxes, she flees an arranged marriage only to stumble upon the cat's secrets, the force of the ancient relic she wears, and the dangerous mission they must undertake.

Hidden under a desert that was once a fertile land, millions of predators are waiting to feast again. Catherine must discover the secret of the Ancient Onyxes and stop the creatures known as trodliks before they consume everything in their path. A whispered prophecy becomes her only guide and a rejected suitor just might be the one warrior she desperately needs.

Join The Hollow Tours for a MONTH LONG TOUR!
On April 3th The Hollow Tours will be doing a REVEAL of the art on the BACK COVER of Candlewax which no one has seen unless they have a trade paperback of the ARC.

Guest Post
By C. Bailey Sims
Author of Candlewax

Just for the heck of it, I thought I would share a recipe from Bessie Brine, a character from the story Candlewax. Bessie is a great cook, even though she’s only sixteen. The Brines (Bessie, her mother and father, younger sister and brother) live in the village of Swiggins at the heart of Lackanay and represent all that is good and right with the land.

Bessie uses her common sense and ingenuity to come up with delicious new recipes for her family’s day-to-day fare and feast days. Her ingredients are fresh and organic.

The village peasants and merchants are able to obtain rare and costly spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, for Swiggins is a prosperous rural community. Not only do the villagers have sufficient resources to supply their own needs, but they also trade the famed “Swiggins” apples throughout Lackanay.

Swiggins are bright red with yellow streaks and have juicy but firm flesh that is both sweet and mildly tart, rendering them excellent for both eating and cooking. For our purposes, we can substitute MacIntosh apples for Swiggins. For “dried rolled oats” any good, non-instant oatmeal will do. The recipe below is one I wish I could order at some little country diner. If you take the trouble to make it, I hope it comes out as good as Bessie’s.

Bessie Brine's Apple-Pie Oatmeal
(Serves Six Fairly Hungry People)

Needed:
Six medium Swiggins
1 T Ground cinnamon
¼ t Grated nutmeg
Pinch of salt
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
¾ cup honey or brown sugar (more if your apples are real tart)
4 cups of dried rolled oats
8 cups of water

Directions: Peel the apples and cut the flesh away from the core. (Save the peels and the core bits for your pig’s slop bucket). Cut the apples into real thin slices. Don’t fret if they turn brown, ‘cause they’re goin’ to taste just fine. Put the apple slices into a bowl and sprinkle them with the apple cider, cinnamon and nutmeg. (See, they’re already browner anyway). Stir the apple mixture up with the sugar or honey and let it sit overnight in a real cool place. The next mornin’, put the pot of water on the fire with a dash of salt and scrape in the apples. If you like your oatmeal smoother, put the oats in before the water boils. If you like your oatmeal grainier, don’t add it until after the apple-water mixture has been boilin’ for two or three minutes. Stir every now and then. Don’t forget to tend to it, ‘cause it will burn if you don’t and there’s nothing worse than cleanin’ out a burned-oatmeal pot. After about five minutes, when the oatmeal/apple mixture is nice and gloppy, ladle it into six bowls and put more brown sugar or honey on top. Add a little cold milk or cream to each bowl and serve.
