Glow

Glow (Sky Chasers, #1)Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Ok so I’m torn between giving this book two to three stars. I’ve heard that this book is like The Hunger Games, which I hope that it isn’t.

This book in a lot of ways was very godly. Very preachy and I’m not into that. It had a very intense message and was very political.

At the beginning of the book I was drawn in and I really liked it. Yet, as the story progressed it had parts that were written for the teen crowd then others that seemed would have been better suited for a children’s book.

The book also jumped POV, which made it a very slow and irritating read. The books love triangle didn’t really make much sense as Seth has done things that are not redeemable and Kieran and Waverly spent most of the book separated. So it made it very hard to become a fan of either love interest. It all felt very detached.

By the end of the book I couldn’t pick a team Kieran or Seth. And most of the time it felt like it was every person for themselves.

This book is listed as a book 1, so I guess unless I’m sent an ARC of the book 2. It will not be flying across my part of space.

Circle Nine

Circle NineCircle Nine by Anne Heltzel

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This book was so weird. I read a few reviews and just couldn't finish it. I skipped to the end and read some of that and I must say that was a very very odd book. I always try very hard to finish a book no matter how bad it is but this one I just couldn't 10 pages in and I was wondering what was going on with it.

#BookReview for The Strange Case of Finley Jayne (Steampunk Chronicles 0.5) by @AlterKates

Synopsis: Finley Jayne knows she's not 'normal'.

Normal girls don't lose time, or have something inside them that makes them capable of remarkably violent things.

Her behavior has already cost her one job, so when she's offered the lofty position of companion to Phoebe, a debutante recently engaged to Lord Vincent, she accepts, despite having no experience.

Lord Vincent is a man of science with his automatons and inventions, but Finley is suspicious of his motives where Phoebe is concerned.

She will do anything to protect her new friend, but what she discovers is even more monstrous than anything she could have imagined.

#BookReview for Vesper (Deviants #1) by @jeffmsampson

Synopsis: Emily Webb is a geek. And she’s happy that way. Content hiding under hoodies and curling up to watch old horror flicks, she’s never been the kind of girl who sneaks out for midnight parties. And she’s definitely not the kind of girl who starts fights or flirts with other girls’ boyfriends. Until one night Emily finds herself doing exactly that . . . the same night one of her classmates—also named Emily—is found mysteriously murdered.

The thing is, Emily doesn’t know why she’s doing any of this. By day, she’s the same old boring Emily, but by night, she turns into a thrill seeker. With every nightfall, Emily gets wilder until it’s no longer just her personality that changes. Her body can do things it never could before: Emily is now strong, fast, and utterly fearless. And soon Emily realizes that she’s not just coming out of her shell . . . there’s something much bigger going on. Is she bewitched by the soul of the other, murdered Emily? Or is Emily Webb becoming something else entirely—something not human?

As Emily hunts for answers, she finds out that she’s not the only one this is happening to—some of her classmates are changing as well. Who is turning these teens into monsters—and how many people will they kill to get what they want?

#Promo for A Love by Any Measure by @killianmcrae

A Love by Any MeasureAn Irish lass. An English lord.
A love that overcomes all boundaries, but at what cost?

Lord August Grayson, English landlord, has secretly, and much to the dismay of his father, held in reverence the object of his first fancy: poor Irish tenant Maeve O'Connor. Returning to Ireland for the first time since his youth, August discovers that Maeve has grown into a woman of beauty and tenacity. He understands, however, that he could offer Maeve nothing but shame if her pursued her. But when circumstances allow him an opportunity to indulge his fancy, even if only in a limited scope, August finds himself unable to resist the temptation.

Maeve, for her part, knows the danger falling for August holds, but finds her heart and her good senses becoming confused the longer she spends in his company. As two hearts become hopelessly entangled, both Maeve and August are forced to question the costs of their love. As consequences of their romance manifest, both struggle with the pain and difficulties their love causes, both for themselves and those who care for them.

Killian McRae's delve into historical romance will challenge reader's presumptions of the genre. A title garnering controversy due to McRae's preference towards historical truth versus genre-standard "love despite the realities of the day" perspectives, it asks at what cost winning love is justified. "A Love by Any Measure" is an exploration of a romance that strives to overcome divisions of cultural, socio-economic, and religious differences in an era where options for lovers in such situations were limited
