#WaitingOn: Eagerly anticipating a dark romance novel releasing in February 2025

If you're eagerly anticipating a dark romance novel releasing in February 2025, "Victorian Psycho" by Virginia Feito is a title to watch for. Set to be published on February 4, 2025, this novel offers a macabre and thrilling narrative set in Victorian England. The story follows Winifred Notty, a governess at the eerie Ensor House, as she grapples with her tumultuous past and increasingly dark impulses. Described by the author as having a "Fleabag sort of personality stuck in the world of A Christmas Carol," the novel blends sardonic wit with a chilling exploration of a woman's descent into madness. Inspired by historical research on female psychopaths and the violent treatment of women in the Victorian era, "Victorian Psycho" promises a unique and gripping read for fans of dark romance. people.com

#WaitingOnWednesday: The River Has Roots by @tithenai

COMING 3.4.25

Dear Readers,

Have you ever wanted to pick a fight with a song?

This book – like rivers, and roots – had a long, meandering path through the world, but its source and seed was a seventeenth century folk ballad that I loved and wanted to fix. “The Cruel Sister” – and its many variants – is a ballad type where an older sister murders her younger sister for the love of a man.

As an eldest child who loves her younger sister more than anything, I had opinions about this! Not least of which: I couldn’t countenance the idea that a man could court two sisters at the same time and not be the villain of the story.

The River Has Roots is a love letter to ballads and the sisters who sing them together; to harp music and riddle songs; and to the landscape and history of Dartmoor, with its Stannary Towns and mysterious stone outcroppings that, whatever else they are, seem to mark a path into other worlds.

When This Is How You Lose the Time War came out in 2019, I couldn’t have been happier with its reception. I used to work in a bookstore, and felt so privileged to see This Is How You Lose the Time War on the receiving end of the kinds of passionate shelf-talkers and hand-selling that I used to do with Holly Black’s Tithe, Terri Windling’s The Wood Wife, and Hope Mirlees’ Lud-in-the-Mist. But seeing booksellers embrace the wild, madcap wonder of Bigolas Dickolas Wolfwood last summer and be such kind stewards of that renewed enthusiasm was its own tremendous gift. Bookstores and booksellers have repeatedly changed my life for the better, and I’m so thrilled and excited to commit The River Has Roots – my solo debut! – into your hands. If this twisty little book finds its audience, I know it will be because of your generous work.

Wishing you all the very best,

Amal El-Mohtar

#WaitingOn: The Christmas Tree Farm (Dream Harbor #3) by @GilmoreLau27606

From the author of the viral TikTok sensation, The Pumpkin Spice Café, comes the only spicy grumpy x sunshine Christmas romcom you need this year!

Kira North hates Christmas. Which is unfortunate since she just bought a Christmas tree farm in a town that’s too cute for its own good.

Bennett Ellis is on vacation in Dream Harbor taking a break from his life in California. And most importantly, taking a break from his latest run of disastrous dates.

After a run in with Kira in her fields, Ben has no intention of offering to help the grumpy owner set up her tree farm, despite the fact she’s clearly got no idea what she’s doing.

Kira knows she should stop being so stubborn, but her farm is not all cute and cozy like people always show on social media, it’s borderline dangerous with no heating, and she’d rather no one saw it.

But somehow fate finds Ben at Kira’s farm once more, and as Kira watches him swing an ax at the first tree, she finds herself appreciating his strength and questionning why she refused help in the first place..

The Christmas Tree Farm is a spicy romantic mystery for fans of Gilmore Girls with a HEA guaranteed!

Tropes:

• grumpy x sunshine
• small town
• forced proximity
• one bed

#WaitingonWednesday: The Golden Enclaves (The Scholomance, #3) by @naominovik

Synopsis: Saving the world is a test no school of magic can prepare you for in the triumphant conclusion to the New York Timesbestselling trilogy that began with A Deadly Education and The Last Graduate.

The one thing you never talk about while you’re in the Scholomance is what you’ll do when you get out. Not even the richest enclaver would tempt fate that way. But it’s all we dream about: the hideously slim chance we’ll survive to make it out the gates and improbably find ourselves with a life ahead of us, a life outside the Scholomance halls.

And now the impossible dream has come true. I’m out, we’re
all out—and I didn’t even have to turn into a monstrous dark witch to make it happen. So much for my great-grandmother’s prophecy of doom and destruction. I didn’t kill enclavers, I saved them. Me and Orion and our allies. Our graduation plan worked to perfection: We saved everyone and made the world safe for all wizards and brought peace and harmony to all the enclaves everywhere.

Ha, only joking! Actually, it’s gone all wrong. Someone else has picked up the project of destroying enclaves in my stead, and probably everyone we saved is about to get killed in the brewing enclave war. And the first thing I’ve got to do now, having miraculously gotten out of the Scholomance, is turn straight around and find a way back in.

#WaitingOnWednesday with @sashaalsberg @authorlindsayc

OMG its almost here!!!! Zenith was one of the best science fiction titles that I have ever read!! It has one of those stories that just pull you in and it's just so vast that these amazing authors can pretty much create millions of stories set in this same world.  So of course I am totally waiting on book two Nexus!!! I am so sad that Barnes & Nobles no longer does their B-Fest Event because that is where I received an ARC of book one and it would have been amazing to have the chance to get one of this.
