{Review} Resist @SarahCrossan

Resist (Breathe, #2)
The sequel—and conclusion—to Sarah Crossan's Breathe. Three teen outlaws must survive on their own in a world without air, exiled outside the glass dome that protects what's left of human civilization. Gripping action, provocative ideas, and shocking revelations in a dystopian novel that fans of Patrick Ness and Veronica Roth will devour.

Bea, Alina, and Quinn are on the run. They started a rebellion and were thrown out of the pod, the only place where there's enough oxygen to breathe. Bea has lost her family. Alina has lost her home. And Quinn has lost his privileged life. Can they survive in the perilous Outlands? Can they finish the revolution they began? Especially when a young operative from the pod's Special Forces is sent after them. Their only chance is to stand together, even when terrible circumstances force them apart. When the future of human society is in danger, these four teens must decide where their allegiances lie. Sarah Crossan has created a dangerous, and shattered society in this wrenching, thought-provoking, and unforgettable post-apocalyptic novel.

The Weight of Water, published by Bloomsbury in January 2012, is her first novel.

This one is a sad review!  I ate up Breathe last year when I got it to review.  And I just couldnt wait for book two.  Well it seems that this is not a trilogy but a duology which is fine.  But this one ends with loss and grief.  And although I did care about what happened to the characters I just didnt feel that I cared enough.  This one just wasnt as good as book one.

The Beginning

Book Description

 August 27, 2013
Long after the Iron Curtain has crumbled, an invisible wall remains between the good citizens of Berlin and those who dwell in the city’s dark underbelly. And one family—the Bentheims—straddles the line between good and evil.
The family has graciously taken in Till Anschütz, a young orphan on the run, and he quickly befriends his new brother, twelve-year-old Max. Together, the boys explore the office where their cold, distant father, Xavier Bentheim, writes his novels. They discover a secret door, an underground lair, gruesome photographs, bizarre films, and horrifying scenes. Is this shadowy world the reason Xavier’s behavior has taken a turn for the vicious—and will they ever be able to escape what they’ve seen?
Berlin Police Inspector Konstantin Butz discovers the mutilated corpse of a woman; beside her lies a power drill freshly wrenched from her stomach. This latest in a series of related murders launches Butz on an obsessive search for the killer, but the key could lie hidden with his own girlfriend…Claire Bentheim.

This one grabbed my attention via Night Owl Reviews.  And I am sad to say that it fell so short that I really dont even want to review it.  The cover and story is what grabbed me.  But after reading it you find that there is no story.  This is a first of 7 books to come and it is deff. written that way.  By the end of this book you have met some characters, passed back and forth across a 12 year span of their lives, and had some great seances.  Nothing is revealed and nothing is resolved.  I dont know when the others are to be released but I do know that this book is not something that I would wait around for a year for.

Geneva “Neva” Ross doesn’t want to die. But now that she’s been turned into a werewolf against her will, she’ll do anything to protect her family and friends…even if that means taking her own life.
After witnessing Neva’s leap from a high ledge, Travis Williamson—a Changeling with a dark past—uses his powers to save her life. He feels a connection to the strong-willed woman whose eyes flash that familiar Changeling green. While Neva is hospitalized, Travis risks everything to kidnap her, knowing the approaching full moon will put everyone in jeopardy.
Bickering constantly to hide their growing attraction, Travis and Neva run from the authorities…and from Neva’s sinister sire, Meredith de la Ronde. Meredith delights in creating new shape-shifters and compelling them to do her dark bidding; now Neva must join Meredith’s murderous wolf pack…or die.
Intensely suspenseful with deliciously sexy twists, this paranormal romance—the first in (the title of series)—intertwines sensual passion with an epic, thrilling battle between good and evil.

Book Description

 September 7, 2013
Abby is haunted by dreams of an ivory castle, blood-thirsty monsters, and a striking stranger. Working as the babysitter for a family of mythology lovers in wealthy Newcastle Beach, she struggles to define herself among the elite class while trying to make sense of her strange visions. Upon meeting David, the doppelgänger of the mysterious young man in her dreams, Abby's life changes forever.

Encountering the queen of Cai Terenmare, Abby learns of a magical realm on the edge of anarchy. She’s told of an evil lord hell-bent on usurping the throne, the assassination of the king, and the kidnapping of the infant prince. Now, as the kingdom struggles to survive, Abby must convince her mysterious crush, David, that he is the lost heir.

While braving attacks from the dark lord's sadistic minions, Abby must help David discover his true identity. Only then may he return to claim his throne before time runs out. Should Abby and David fail, a long-imprisoned evil will escape, destroying Cai Terenmare and all of humanity.

Sign of the Throne Guest Post for Crossroad Reviews
Melissa Eskue Ousley
Sociopaths
The Well-Meaning Sociopaths is the moniker of one of Abby Brown’s favorite bands in Sign of the Throne. The name is a joke, because, by definition, a sociopath is anything but well-meaning. A sociopath is a person with a personality disorder whose behavior is antisocial and often criminal. This type of person lacks a social conscience or a sense of moral responsibility. A sociopath has a grandiose sense of self, believing that he or she is superior to others, and has no compassion for others. A person with this personality has no regard for personal boundaries and believes that the end always justifies the means. A sociopath lets nothing stand in the way of his or her goals, and does not show remorse. A sociopath does not care how his or her actions affect others. This kind of person may be oblivious to the destruction he or she causes, or may even blame the victim. A sociopath may appear to be charming, but is actually manipulative and cunning, and has no problem lying.
While some sociopaths don’t care what others think of them, a sociopath who has narcissistic traits may be particularly dangerous because he or she may react violently to criticism. Like other types of sociopaths, a narcissist has an exaggerated sense of self and may see him or herself as above normal life responsibilities or the law. However, this kind of person cannot tolerate criticism; instead they crave praise. Because they strive to present themselves in the most positive manner possible, even lying about personal achievements, a narcissistic sociopath, like other sociopaths, may appear very charming, and may use this charisma to recruit others to a cause, using followers as instruments for the completion of his or her own mission. Followers may have good intentions, but may harm others for the sake of achieving the goal or because they think they are serving the greater good.
A major theme in Sign of the Throne is the multi-faceted nature of evil. Sometimes people have bad intentions and cause harm. Sometimes people mean well, and end up hurting someone. But does it really matter to your victim what your intentions were? Maybe. Maybe not. What if you’ve made a terrible mistake and hurt someone? Can you be forgiven? Can you be redeemed? These are questions posed and explored throughout the Solas Beir Trilogy, and I’ll leave it to you, the reader, to come up with the answers. But consider yourself warned: some of the characters in this series are sociopaths. Some are narcissistic sociopaths. And some are followers who may or may not mean well. Tread carefully, for Cai Terenmare is a dangerous place.
