{Guest Post} {Review} {Giveaway} Relic by #HeatherTerrell @soho_teen

Relic (Books of Eva, #1)
The truth will test you...

For fans of Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games: high fantasy and dystopia meet in this high-stakes tale of a civilization built on lies and the girl who single-handedly brings it down.

When Eva’s twin brother, Eamon, falls to his death just a few months before he is due to participate in The Testing, no one expects Eva to take his place. She’s a Maiden, slated for embroidery classes, curtseys, and soon a prestigious marriage befitting the daughter of an Aerie ruler. But Eva insists on honoring her brother by becoming a Testor. After all, she wouldn’t be the first Maiden to Test, just the first in 150 years.

Eva knows the Testing is no dance class. Gallant Testors train for their entire lives to search icy wastelands for Relics: artifacts of the corrupt civilization that existed before The Healing drowned the world. Out in the Boundary Lands, Eva must rely on every moment of the lightning-quick training she received from Lukas—her servant, a Boundary native, and her closest friend now that Eamon is gone.

But there are threats in The Testing beyond what Lukas could have prepared her for. And no one could have imagined the danger Eva unleashes when she discovers a Relic that shakes the Aerie to its core.

Biography

She is a magna cum laude graduate of Boston College with a focus in History, and a cum laude graduate of the Boston University School of Law. She first wrote the historical novels The Chrysalis and The Map Thief, which will appear in more than ten countries, as well as Brigid of Kildare. She made the transition to young adult fiction with the series Fallen Angel -- and continues it now with The Books of Eva.

Well this one was great and I don't think that the cover does it justice.  The first part of the book is all about Eva and her testing.  To it was some pretty good world building and a great start to the story.   As well as being able to tell friend from foe.  The last part of the book is all about after her testing.  Which was deff. my fav!  I so can't wait for the next one in this series.  I do with that the first half of the book was just a tad bit faster.  It tends to drag on some parts.  This book is deff set as a series.  Which is not bad.  Some issues in the book gets solved and some don't.  Its a great start to what is to be a great series.

Guest Post with Author!

Who would you cast as Lukas,
the main character's mysterious love interest

This is such a challenging question, because I have a precise image of Lukas’ rugged, handsome appearance -- with his dark eyes and hair--and it’s unique from anyone I’ve actually seen. It’s also difficult to cast Lukas in that he has such a specific background -- he’s from one of the  indigenous Arctic cultures, Inuit most particularly -- and he has unusual physical strength -- he’s a phenomenal ice climber. That’s a tough order to fill! That said, if I was forced to choose, I think I’d probably cast Taylor Lautner. Although he doesn’t have the actual Arctic background (at least not that I know!), his appearance approximates it, and from the Twilight
movies, I’d say he has fairly substantial physicality. And he could probably convey Lukas’ unique qualities of innate kindness, quiet conviction, and smoldering emotion.

The Morganville Vampires, Volume 4Now together in one volume, the seventh and eight books in the Morganville Vampires series show that even without an evil masyer vampire controlling the town, Morganville is still a dangerous place to be - for humans and vampires alike...

FADE OUT
Without Bishop ruling over the town of Morganville, life has changed - dramatically. The resident vampires have made major concessions to the human population. With their newfound freedoms, Claire Danvers and her friends are almost starting to feel comfortable again, but when a filmmaker goes missing after starting work on a short documentary about vampires, Clair and her friends are feeling anything but safe.

KISS OF DEATH

Vampire Michael Glass just received the call he's been waiting for all his life. His music has attracted the attention of a heavily connected music producer who wants to cut a demo and play some dates - which means Michael and his friends will have to enter the human world. But between a pack of hateful humans and a savage party of traveling vampires, Michael, Claire, Shane, and Eve may not make it to the show on time...or ever.

Well these two books went very fast.  With a lot of backstory tossed in for those who either 1. have not read the series. and 2. for those who have not read them all at once.  So if you haven't read these in a while its ok.  You will deff know what is going on by the first chapter or so.  From life changing in Fade Out.  New laws and rules for both sides.  The humans start to come out of their shells and are not as afraid to tell it like it is.  I think they have found their will to live again.  Then in Kiss of Death Michael comes center stage for a the chance of a lifetime and this also has our first full story set OUTSIDE of Morganville!

For both books!

The Morganville Vampires, Volume 3With the arrival of the evil master vampire Bishop, the small college town of Morganville, Texas, has dissolved into chaos. Now together in one volume, the fifth and sixth books of the Morganville Vampires series show that defeating Bishop is a task that's going to take some serious skill....

LORD OF MISRULE

In Morganville, violent black clouds promise a storm of devastating proportions. As student Claire Danvers and her friends prepare to defend Morganville against the elements - both natural and unnatural - the unexpected happen
s: Morganville's vampires begin to vanish one by one. Discovering why leads Claire to one last choice: Swear allegiance to Bishop - or die....

CARPE CORPUS

An underground resistance is brewing in Morganville. In order to contain it, Bishop vows to obliterate the town and all its inhabitants - the livingand the undead. Claire Danvers and her friends are the only ones who stand in his way. But even if they defeat Bishop, will the vampires ever be content to go back to the old rules after having such a taste of power?

I can say now without a doubt that these first 8 books really do belong together in the bind ups.  I think I would have died esp. in the first two books if I would have had to wait for them to be published.  I love the way that the story and world have come together.  And now toss in a new face from the past and it works out very well.  We of course still have the issues.  But again those will go away when you get to book 11.

In a case that could change her career, Miranda uncovers a love that will change her life.
When Miranda Hunt sees the classified ad for an heiress to the legendary Last Chance Ranch, she knows assuming the identity of Annie Beckman is the perfect cover. As one of the finest agents for the Pinkerton Detective Agency, Miranda has been tasked with apprehending the Phantom—an elusive and notorious train robber thought to be hiding on the sprawling ranch.
But she isn’t the only one at the ranch with something to hide. Wells Fargo detective Jeremy Taggart is working undercover as well. Their true identities may be a secret, but it is impossible for Jeremy and Miranda to hide the sparks flaring between them.
Neither is about to let romance interfere with such a huge case. Besides, Miranda hasn’t removed Jeremy from her list of suspects yet. The closer they get to uncovering the identity of the Phantom, the more dangerous he gets—and no one on the ranch is safe.
The longer Miranda and Jeremy spend working together, the harder it becomes to keep their feelings in check. Their careers—and their lives—depend on solving this case. Love will just have to wait.

Margaret BrownleyThrills, mystery, suspense, romance: Margaret penned it all. Nothing wrong with this--except Margaret happened to be writing for the church newsletter at the time. After making the church picnic read like a Grisham novel, her former pastor took her aside and said, "Maybe God's calling you to write fiction." So that's what Margaret did. She's now a New York Times bestselling author and a Romance Writers of America RITA finalist with more than 25 novels to her credit. Her first non-fiction book "Grieving God's Way: the Lasting Path to Hope and Healing" has won much critical acclaim. She is currently working on the third book in her "Brides of Last Chance Ranch series." Not bad for someone who flunked 8th grade English. Just don't ask her to diagram a sentence.

This author really knows how to write a story!  Ever since I got started reviewing from Lite Fuse I have been so surprised on how many great books there are out there.  That even though they are listed as Christian Fiction or Romance etc.  They are amazing books that anyone could love.  This one is no less amazing!  I made it through the book in one day!  Brownley makes her characters come alive on the page and just makes amazingly unforgettable books!

The Morganville Vampires, Volume 2
Morganville is such a nice place to live... And die. If you don’t mind that sort of thing.

When Claire Danvers learnt that her college town was run by vampires, she did what any intelligent, self-preserving student would do: she applied for a transfer and stocked up on garlic. The transfer is no longer an option, but that garlic may come in handy.

Now Claire has pledged herself to Amelie, the most powerful vampire in town. The protection her contract secures does little to reassure her friends. All of a sudden, people are turning up dead, a stalker resurfaces from Claire’s past, and an ancient bloodsucker extends a chilling invitation for private lessons in his secluded home. Claire Danvers has her share of challenges---like being a genius in a school that favors beauty over brains, dealing with the homicidal girls in her dorm, and above all, finding out that her college town is overrun with vampires. On the up side, she has a great roommate (who tends to disappear at sunup) and a new boyfriend named Shane, whose vampire-hunting dad has called in backup: cycle punks who like the idea of killing just about anything.

Now a fraternity is throwing its annual Dead Girls' Dance and---surprise!---Claire and her equally outcast best friend, Eve, have been invited. When they find out why, all hell is going to break loose. Because this time both the living and the dead are coming out---and everybody's hungry for blood.

Well I started to read these as individual books.  I even went out and grabbed the first 8 books in there mass market paperback versions.  And well those started to read much faster then the bind ups.  this one picks yo where The Dead Girls' Dance left off.  This one has a little more of the world building that we haven't really gotten and introduces some new faces.  I really am starting to love Claire she is coming into her own. And being the scared little girl she was in book one.

Ok so this is where things start to get a little ugh!  I really wish they would have gotten a different editor or something.  Because, the inconsistencies start and they don't tend to stop.  As Im writing this (as I have finished the entire series) You will have inconsistencies until book 11.  I think they finally stop there.  So if you can hang on for that long you will be out of the woods.  Well The Dead Girls' Dance of course picks up after book 3.  And things are just getting worse for those living in Morganville.  This one has a little cliff hanger.

For both books!
