I need to inform everyone that I do not have a working computer as of ten minutes ago. It is going in to the apple store tomorrow at 1pm. So I will see if they can fix it. Hopefully they can. We will be rescheduling the ReadOn for a later date.

I will still be able to post. But they will look weird until I get the computer back. As they will be posting from my phone or iPad.

{Review} {Giveaway} The Necromancer's House by @Buehlmeister @SparkPointTeam

The Necromancer's House
Those Across the River, a “beautifully written…exceedingly clever” (Boston Herald) masterpiece of “genuine terror” (New York Times bestselling author F. Paul Wilson), was hailed by #1 New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris as “one of the best first novels I’ve ever read.” Now comes Christopher Buehlman’s new novel—one of uncommon horrors hiding behind the walls of the house next door…

“You think you got away with something, don’t you? But your time has run out. We know where you are. And we are coming.”
The man on the screen says this in Russian.
“Who are you?”
The man smiles, but it’s not a pleasant smile.
The image freezes.
The celluloid burns exactly where his mouth is, burns in the nearly flat U of his smile. His eyes burn, too.
The man fades, leaving the burning smiley face smoldering on the screen.
“Oh Christ,” Andrew says.
The television catches fire.

Andrew Ranulf Blankenship is a handsome, stylish nonconformist with wry wit, a classic Mustang, and a massive library. He is also a recovering alcoholic and a practicing warlock, able to speak with the dead through film. His house is a maze of sorcerous booby traps and escape tunnels, as yours might be if you were sitting on a treasury of Russian magic stolen from the Soviet Union thirty years ago. Andrew has long known that magic was a brutal game requiring blood sacrifice and a willingness to confront death, but his many years of peace and comfort have left him soft, more concerned with maintaining false youth than with seeing to his own defense. Now a monster straight from the pages of Russian folklore is coming for him, and frost and death are coming with her.

Biography

Christopher Buehlman is a native Floridian and author of the literary horror novels 'Those Across the River' and 'Between Two Fires.' He is the winner of the 2007 Bridport Prize in poetry, and the author of several provocative plays, including Hot Nights for the War Wives of Ithaka. Many know him as comedian Christophe the Insultor, something of a cult figure on the renaissance festival circuit. He lives in St. Petersburg, Florida. His first novel, 'Those Across the River,' was nominated for a World Fantasy Award for best novel in 2012.

Sorry guys this was supposed to be up back in Oct.  It has taken me this long to track it down.  It seems that it wanted to be published back in the 80s lol.

I moved near him and his hand guided me in front of the bench, but I turned to face him instead of sitting down. He immediately shifted back, pulling slightly away. I wasn’t sure if it was the bump on my head suddenly clouding my thoughts, or the romance of being swept away and rescued by a gorgeous, mysterious boy, or this little ache in my heart of forgotten memories and dreams, but something deep inside me drew me towards him.

I wanted to reach out and hold him, but I held the feelings back, unsure if I should act on them. Instead, I stood there unmoving, still gazing up at him. He was tall compared to most high school boys I knew. I searched his face for any sign of reciprocation and moved closer. This time he didn’t move away.

“Thank you again,” I said softly, looking up at him through my lashes.

There was a long, heavy pause as I waited breathlessly for his response. His glowing eyes met mine, and their radiance hypnotized me. I could see nothing else.

Then I felt it again, the unexplainable connection between us. Time slowed around us like a force field pulling us together. I had no desire to resist it; I let the feelings draw me in, and I inched forward, wishing for his lips on mine. His hand lifted gently to my waist, sending a thrill through me in every direction. Never before had I felt the desire to kiss someone so fervently, the divine first kiss I had always dreamed of.

There was no trace of resistance left on his face. He leaned into me and my heart raced. Our faces grew slowly together as I looked from his dazzling eyes to his inviting lips.

{Review} {Giveaway} Fated by @AlysonNoel @StMartinsPress

Fated (Soul Seekers, #1)
Until now, he's existed only in her dreams -
but fate is about to bring them together.

I shove through the crowd, knocking into girls and bouncing off boys, until one in particular catches me, steadies me.
I feel so secure, so at home in his arms.
I melt against his chest-lift my gaze to meet his. Gasping when I stare into a pair of icy blue eyes banded by brilliant flecks of gold that shine like kaleidoscopes, reflecting my image thousands of times.
The boy from my dream.
The one who died in my arms.

Strange things are happening to Daire Santos. Crows mock her, glowing people stalk her, time stops without warning, and a beautiful boy with unearthly blue eyes haunts all her dreams. Fearing for her daughter’s sanity, Daire’s mother sends her to live with the grandmother she’s never met. A woman who recognizes the visions for what they truly are—the call to her destiny as a Soul Seeker—one who can navigate the worlds between the living and dead.

There on the dusty plains of Enchantment, New Mexico, Daire sets out to harness her mystical powers. But it’s when she meets Dace, the boy from her dreams, that her whole world is shaken to its core. Now Daire is forced to discover if Dace is the one guy she's meant to be with...or if he’s allied with the enemy she's destined to destroy.

Although this book was ok.  It lacked that wow factor that makes you want to read more!  As I get ready to start book two Echo I really hope that the pace picks up and that it stops reading like a series.   It really slowed Fated down.  For the 352 pages I found myself wanting to start a new book instead of continuing.  Yet, I still finished it.  Its a great story and I am a deff. fan of Noel's over series called The Immortal Series.  It was great fast paced and wonderful.  But this new Seekers Series is very slow.  I think that she could have deleted around 100 pages made it a little faster and it would have been perfect!  So although this was not a DNF for me. It is deff a book you don't want to get into unless you are in for the long haul!

Now that that is over.  I wanted to add that I loved the characters.  I think that naming one Dare (pronounce not the spelling) and one Dace was a little convenient lol.  But, thats ok.

PS. Noel if you are reading this I still love you and your books!!  The Immortal Series kept me up at night as it is one of the first series I had to wait for the next one to be published!!!

{Review} The Great Unexpected by @ciaobellacreech @HarperCollinsCh @NightOwlReviews

The Great Unexpected
From Newbery Medal winner and bestselling author Sharon Creech comes a grand, sweeping yarn that is a celebration of the great and unexpected gifts of love, friendship, and forgiveness. With a starred review from Kirkus Reviews calling it an "enchanting tale to treasure,"The Great Unexpected captures the heart and the imagination.

Humorous and heartfelt, this is a story of pairs—of young Naomi and Lizzie, both orphans in present-day Blackbird Tree, USA, and of Sybil and Nula, grown-up sisters from faraway Rook's Orchard, Ireland, who have become estranged.

Young Naomi Deane is brimming with curiosity and her best friend, Lizzie Scatterding, could talk the ears off a cornfield. Naomi has a knack for being around when trouble happens. She knows all the peculiar people in town—like Crazy Cora and Witch Wiggins. But then, one day, a boy drops out of a tree. Just like that. A strangely charming Finn boy. And then the Dingle Dangle man appears, asking all kinds of questions. Curious surprises are revealed—three locked trunks, a pair of rooks, a crooked bridge, and that boy—and soon Naomi and Lizzie find their lives changed forever.

As two worlds are woven together, Creech reveals that hearts can be mended and that there is indeed a gossamer thread that connects us all.

When I started reading this one I ended up starting it over twice.  There are sections that I don't think the age group this book was written for will understand.  They will end up putting the book down.  Which I almost did.  The one character that I had issues with was Finn, It was not clear how important he was, even at the end of the book.  I do think the ending was good.  I think I would recommend this one to grades 6 and up. I think they might understand it a little better.  I would say to read this book slow and take your time. You will spend most of it floating between being confused and in awe. The world is wonderful and mysterious with a great cast of characters.

I was once addicted to Egyptian Mythology.......Ok Ok I still am. This middle grade book was so cute and fun!  Its a fast paced story about a little girl who finds a ring that once belonged to Cleopatra.  I so can't wait for the next in the series.  I did find out via the author that each book will have a different gem and I think that was so creative and fun!  I think also that if they would stick some history or etc in the back of each book about that particular stone that would make the book even better! This book also comes with Discussion Questions!   This one also wins our Beautiful Cover Award!

{Blast} Reap @channellewrites @NereydaG1003

Reap
Release Date: 10/11/13

Summary from Goodreads:
Foreign, or rather unfamiliar, would be the word I would use to describe how I felt.

Faintly, I could hear the glimmer of voices surrounding me in this dark haze, caressing my ears like skin against silk. I felt like I was in a cocoon of sorts, protectively enveloped, quietly drifting in some far-off place. I wanted to stay that way forever.

But we all know that what you want never really seems to happen in the real world.

Something’s not right in Mia’s head.

The first thing is that her name isn’t Mia. In fact, she has no clue what her name is—who she is. All that she knows is that she’s not like the ones who found her: Dante with his kind blue eyes, Amy with her child-like demeanor, James with his questioning gaze.

And Briggs.

The one she cannot decipher no matter how hard she tries.

As Mia tries to fit in with these people, a strange occurrence is amidst outside. And as she finally remembers who she is …

Well, let’s just say that things get a little more complicated.
