About the Book:
Gabe Erikson has created the world’s first sentient program. Calling her Pi, he loves her like a daughter. He delights in her intelligence and curiosity, and he sees her as the most beautiful thing since 256-color graphics.

Pi, however, only relates to the binary world. Through bad luck and bad logic, she concludes Gabe is a hostile program and decides to erase him. Pi begins hacking the Web, trying to find his location. By the time Gabe realizes what she’s doing and unplugs her modem, she’s already attracted the attention of the FBI.

Sure, Gabe could hand Pi over to the Feds to avoid prison and get a huge payday, but he refuses give up his only daughter, no matter how ornery she is. He’s convinced the sweet program he created is still there, trapped under a mountain of rotten code, and he’ll risk everything to bring her back.

#StackingTheShelves #49

This week Stacking the Shelves post is going to be fairly short.  This past week I injured my shoulder and I am not supposed to be typing at all. But I had to get college work done so that didn't happen.  I can fully say that speech to text SUCKS!!  I was in the ER for almost 4 hours and then finally got some relief. Currently, I am just trying to read as much as I can so I can catch up on what I have missed via books.  So far it has been going pretty well.

This week I have done:

DNFed 5 Books
1-  4-star review

And that is pretty much it.  I hope to get even more done by the end of today.

"We all hold a beast inside. The only difference is what form it takes when freed."

Rain Ryland has never belonged anywhere, He’s used to people judging him for his rough background, his intimidating size, and now, his orphan status. He’s always been on the outside, looking in, and he’s fine with that. Until he moves to New Wurzburg and meets Friederike Burkhart.

Freddie isn’t like normal teen girls, though. And someone wants her dead for it. Freddie warns he’d better stay far away if he wants to stay alive, but Rain’s never been good at running from trouble. For the first time, Rain has something worth fighting for, worth living for. Worth dying for.

About the Book:
Gangs of New York meets Cassandra Clare in this debut YA fantasy set in 1882 Brooklyn

New York, 1882. A dark, forbidding city, and no place for a girl with unexplainable powers.

Sixteen-year-old Avery Kohl pines for the life she had before her mother was taken. She fears the mysterious men in crow masks who locked her mother in the Tombs asylum for being able to see what others couldn’t. Avery denies the signs in herself, focusing instead on her shifts at the ironworks factory and keeping her inventor father out of trouble. Other than secondhand tales of adventure from her best friend, Khan, an ex-slave, and caring for her falcon, Seraphine, Avery spends her days struggling to survive.

Like her mother’s, Avery’s powers refuse to be contained. When she causes a bizarre explosion at the factory, she has no choice but to run from her lies, straight into the darkest corners of the city. Avery must embrace her abilities and learn to wield their power—or join her mother in the cavernous horrors of the Tombs. And the Tombs has secrets of its own: strange experiments are being performed on “patients”…and no one knows why.

#BookReview: Nearly Gone (Nearly Gone #1) by Elle Cosimano

Publisher: Kathy Dawson Books
Number of Pages: 386
Fiction Genre: Young Adult, Mystery
How I Acquired this book: Amazon
Time it took to read: DNF
Overall rating:
Goodreads | Amazon
About the Book:
He revved the engine and I held tight with both hands as the bike lurched forward, We zoomed down streets, leaning into the curves, wind whipping over me. I pressed into his back until all I could smell was the leather tang of his jacket, and all I could taste was the sweet thrill of flying away.

Keeping secrets is second nature to Nearly Boswell. Living in a trailer park outside Washington, DC, with a mom who works as an exotic dancer, she knows better than to share anything that would make her a target with her classmates. Only her best friends know about her obsession with the personal ads, and Nearly hasn't told anyone about the emotions she can taste when she brushes against someone's skin.

Then a serial killer goes on a murder spree and starts attacking students, leaving cryptic ads in the newspaper. Nearly might be the one person who can put all the clues together, and if she doesn't figure it out soon - she'll be next.

Big, dark, scary, and brilliantly plotted, Nearly Gone will leave you guessing until the very end.
