The Hundredth Queen by @Emily_R_King #BookReview @NightOwlReviews

This title will be released on June 1, 2017.

As an orphan ward of the Sisterhood, eighteen-year-old Kalinda is destined for nothing more than a life of seclusion and prayer. Plagued by fevers, she’s an unlikely candidate for even a servant’s position, let alone a courtesan or wife. Her sole dream is to continue living in peace in the Sisterhood’s mountain temple.

But a visit from the tyrant Rajah Tarek disrupts Kalinda’s life. Within hours, she is ripped from the comfort of her home, set on a desert trek, and ordered to fight for her place among the rajah’s ninety-nine wives and numerous courtesans. Her only solace comes in the company of her guard, the stoic but kind Captain Deven Naik.

Faced with the danger of a tournament to the death—and her growing affection for Deven—Kalinda’s only hope for escape lies in an arcane, forbidden power that’s buried within her.

In Emily R. King’s thrilling fantasy debut, an orphan girl blossoms into a warrior, summoning courage and confidence in her fearless quest to upend tradition, overthrow an empire, and reclaim her life as her own.

This young adult fantasy was beyond fantastic!  I wasn't too sure about it when I started but shortly in, knew I was going to die hard love it.  So I know what you are thinking why the 4 stars.  Although this book was beautiful parts of it dragged just a bit.  I wish that those parts would have been snipped just a bit to make the story a little faster.  Other than that this book was splendid.  The rest of the pacing was great, and this one has a lot of twists and turns. A few that will rip out your heart and others that will make your heart bloom.

This is a wonderful debut that gives the reader a unique new world. I loved Kali she was strong, steady on her feet, and a joy to read about.  I loved how she interacted with other characters.  Her love interested was even better Devon, he was charming, protective, and loyal and of course, totally swoon worthy!  The rest of the cast were an unusual combo of characters that you just couldn't help to love and hate.  From people who had powers. To a villain that will make your blood boil. The author did a fantastic job creating this world and people who live within it.

The story was well developed, unique, and different. I really can't wait for book two. And I will be counting down the days until it is released!
