This author is one that I have found that I love some of her books and just not so much for others.  This one fell into the not so much!! This is a very dark story that to tell you the truth it was kinda boring. I only got just past the 50-page mark before I made the choice to just call it quits.  It is very vibrant in the world building and I came to find out that it is based on a true city from ages ago.  Which was very interesting.  The charters all seemed the same and I ended up at parts going back to the front of the chapter trying to figure out who I was reading about.  I wish that the book would have been in one or dual POV vs. 3.   The story was slower and well there were parts that just made me totally gag!  If you have a weak stomach this may not be the book for you.
