#BookReview: Wandfasted (The Black Witch Chronicles, #0.5) by Laurie Forest

About the Book:

Magic, romance and adventure collide in WANDFASTED, the irresistible ebook prequel to THE BLACK WITCH

"When they painted "Heretics" on our barn and set fire to it, I thought that was the worst it could get.

Until they sent the dragons.

But they didn't count on us having dragons of our own.

And they certainly didn't count on Her. Our Great Mage.

The Bringer of Fire. The Storm of Death. The Crow Sorceress.

Our Deliverance.

The Black Witch."

Yep this one ripped it out but it put it back by the end!

My Review:  OMG guys I am so book dead right now! This book gave me all the feels I could have asked for and it was so good that I actually read it twice!  Although this book does not give you as much of the backstory like The Black Witch does I would say to read this one AFTER The Black Witch because you would miss a lot of the connections that happen in this book as this is about Elloren's parents and family.  I am not really one for novellas but this one was by far one of the BEST that I have EVER read!  I was so engrossed in the pages that I wish it would have been a full-fledged novel.  I want a full prequel to this series about everything that happened to them.

The world building in this one is in full swing as we get action, drama, romance, death, OMG it was beyond fantastic!  Even if you think you won't like this because you don't read novellas please PLEASE read this it was just that good.   Although we still get that racism that we get in book one I really loved Tessla and Vale and how they dealt with thinking that someone was gay and how others were treated.  It was a real testament to this story about how you should accept people no matter their background etc.

This author killed me with this story! There were actual parts in this where I was screaming NO OMG NO!! NOOOOOOO but then it all turns out ok yay! But really Forest KNOWS how to get your blood pumping and make you fall so in love with characters that when something happens to them you are devastated or happy right along with them.

The romance and story in this one flowed so well. I loved laughing along with Tessa and her thoughts that she was wandfasted to someone that was Gay and that she was somewhat unhappy about it but was also happy that this person who didn't like women would protect her.  I really loved all those parts of this story.  The darker themes of this one where woman have no say for the most part and the witches coming to power it was an out of this world tale that I could not put down.

Do I Recommend this book?  I recommend this one to older teens 16+ (there is some sex in this one) as well as to anyone who die hard loves fantasy!

And he’s made the very bad decision to be friends with me.

Gardnerian magic runs along affinity lines—fire, water, air, earth and light. I have mostly fire. Lots of it.

“I wish there were no races,” he ground out, glowering at the horizon, his voice low with frustration. “Just all of us the same.”

Wandfasted. Forever. Final as death.

“Go ahead, then,” I taunt back. “Get me a wand. I might strike you down if you irritate me.”

Vale coughs out a laugh. “You could try. I like to spar with the outrageously overconfident. I’ve a lot of practice with that.”

Forget everything in the whole world and drown in his fire.

You can buy anything you like.” “A horde of dragons?” I cheekily inquire, happiness unexpectedly blossoming inside me. Vale laughs. “Of course.” He beams at me, a defiant fire lighting his eyes. “And a wand to go with them.”

“But I won’t slaughter our enemies’ children. Burn their villages. Do to their families what they did to us. There are orders I will not follow, Tessla.” His brow tenses. “I want our people to be safe. But I refuse to become as monstrous as the Kelts and the Urisk.”
