#BookReview: Zodiac Academy: The Awakening (Beasts and Bullies #1) by @carolinepeckham @susannevalenti

Synopsis: You have been selected to attend Zodiac Academy, where your star sign defines your destiny.

If you're one of the Fae, elemental magic is in your blood. And apparently it's in ours. As twins born in the month of Gemini, we're a rare breed even in this academy of supernatural a-holes.

Changelings were outlawed hundreds of years ago but I guess our birth parents didn't get the memo. Which means we're totally unprepared for the ruthless world of Fae.

Air. Fire. Water. Earth.

No one has ever harnessed all four of them, until we arrived. And it hasn't made us any friends so far.

As the rarest Elementals ever known, we're already a threat to the four celestial heirs; the popular, vindictive bullies who happen to be some of the hottest guys we've ever seen. It doesn't help that they're the most dangerous beasts in the Academy. And probably on earth too.

Our fates are intertwined, but they want us gone. They've only got until the lunar eclipse to force us out and they'll stop at nothing to succeed.

We never knew we had a birthright to live up to but now that we do, we intend to claim our throne.

We can't expect any help from the faculty when it comes to defending ourselves. So if the dragon shifters want some target practice, the werewolves want someone to hunt or the vampiresfancy a snack then we have to be ready. But we've been looking after each other for a long time and fighting back is in our blood.

Today's horoscope: totally screwed.

This is a full-length medium burn novel that is the first in a university-age academy series. Expect forbidden love and bully romance with mature content suitable for upper YA readers and onwards.

About the Author:  Susanne Valenti lives in Kent, England with her husband Richard and their daughter Riley and son Roman. She has two cats and has worked in animal rescue as well as the family business. She enjoys all things fictional and wants to create stories that give the reader a real sense of love, friendship and adventure with a good twist of the unknown thrown in.

Caroline Peckham is a paranormal romance author who went full time after her success with The Vampire Games Series. She began writing after her passion for young adult fantasy fiction grew to an obsession and she loves that she is now not only a fan of the genre but now an author of it too. Caroline lives in the south east of London in a tiny, quintessentially English town where you'll find an abundance of trees, pubs and rain. She has a BSc in Zoology from The University of Reading and, when not writing, still has a mind for science and googles every question that springs to mind. She adores animals, adventure trips, and watching the latest fantasy, action, paranormal and science fiction films at the cinema.

My Review:
Tory and Darcy were never your average girls.  Twins who grew up in foster care thrown out as soon as they turned 18.  They have both known their fair share of troubles and have led interesting lives doing what they can to get by, like stealing limited edition motorcycles.  However, one day their world as they know it is turned upside down by a “professor” and life will never be the same.  I really enjoyed this book.  If you love a good fantasy book with action and some kick ass heroines this is the book for you.  With a unique magic system based off of the main elements as well as links to the zodiac this book will have you staying up all night wanting to read more.  I also enjoyed that this book was dual perspective and we get to hear both sides of the girl’s stories as well as the people they meet along the way.  I also enjoyed how vividly she described the world as well.  You could close your eyes and swear that you were there at the Zodiac Academy with all the other students.  I can not wait to continue on with this series.
