#BookReview: Angel Born (Halflings, #1) by @heatherburch

Synopsis: Life was normal for Nikki until otherworldly wolves chased her through the woods near her high school. Now she’s a target for a myriad of supernatural beings.

Three half-human, half-angels are sworn to protect her. Complicating life further, Mace, Raven, and Vine--the Halflings--are the swoon-worthy new guys at her school.

For the Halflings, safeguarding Nikki isn't just an assignment. All of humanity hangs in the balance.

Together, they outsmart the demons hunting her, but when Nikki's name is connected to a research laboratory bent on world domination, the stakes rise.

This is the Author’s Cut edition and was previously published as Halflings.

Dive into this first book in the critically acclaimed Halflings series where angels aren’t always perfect and teen girls are more than what they seem.

My Review: Ive kind of lost track with how many times I have read these stories. And each time I pick up on something else that I missed.  I loved this story since I first read it ages ago and each time I read it I fall in love with it all over again.  Heather Burch has a way to grasp your heart and not let it go.  I love this story about a girl who is destined to be much more than she ever thought herself capable of.  She is destined not be the damsel but to be a warrior and a heroine.  She will fearlessly protect those she loves and never give up.

Favorite Quotes:

“Can we keep her?” Vine asked, voice lilting like a child’s. “She’s not a pet, Bloom. She’s an assignment,”

Finally, Will spoke. “The world balances on a pinhead, and its fate rests in the hands of teenagers.”

Something was lurking in the shadows. And it was waiting for her.

Guys don’t just appear out of nowhere. Of course, neither do hell hounds.

“This is a new year. A chance to make a change, a fresh start. I know you’re the self-proclaimed brooding-artist type. But you know what happens to them? They all cut off their ears. Think about it. You’ll end up with no ears, living in a trailer house eating cat food. Not a pretty picture.”

He’d wrap the garment around her burned hands—and tried not to wrap Nikki Youngblood around his heart. Mace was doomed.

“Trust is for the weak.” “And love is for victims.” "And like you said I don't have that luxury."

“No,” he said. “When I saw you, I fell in love.”
