#BookReview: Mrs. Franchy's Evil Ring and the Six Months that Changed Everything by @johannyconchole

Synopsis: At just nine years old, Isla Delgado had already endured more than her fair share of trauma with her first stepmom when she was only five. Her anxiety worsens as her mom tells her she must go live with her dad and his new wife for six months.

Determined to protect herself, Isla sets out to expose her stepmom as the evil witch she's sure she is. But as she gets to know her stepmom, she begins to realize that things aren't always as they seem.

Join Isla on her journey of self-discovery and learn how even the most traumatic experiences can be overcome with the power of love and understanding.

“Mrs. Franchy’s Evil Ring and the Six Months that Changed Everything” is a heartwarming tale about family, trust, and the power of compassion that will leave readers of all ages feeling uplifted and inspired.

My Review: This story has some triggers of physical and verbal abuse but other than that this was a great little spooky tale.  The abuse isn't graphic but it is there.  So just FYI. The author did a great job adding those trigger warnings so you aren't blind sided.  This would work great for middle grade to low ya readers.  As I think they will be old enough to understand the content. The story itself was a well paced and had a great plot and characters.

Overlooking the waining Dominican sun during late evenings after school, Johanny Ortega developed a taste for reading. Less than a year after immigrating to the U.S., she learned to speak English, and she thinks this occurred so fast because she couldn’t wait to read a book. When she didn’t find characters that looked like her and shared a similar background, the love of reading morphed into a love of writing, and soon all the what-if stories that swam in her head turned into books, blogs, short stories, and novellas.

Johanny currently writes adult books, short stories, and novellas under J.E. Ortega and children's books under Johanny Ortega.
