When the royal party finds themselves in a land they never believed they could access, it will take all of Prince Gevulin's (admittedly impressive) diplomatic skills to forge a coalition with an unlikely group of would-be allies.
Meanwhile, as Elen mourns her lost love, an unwelcome visit to the land of her birth brings back the traumatic memories of the childhood she shared with her sister.
And a surprise visit from an unwelcome family member threatens to derail the plans of multiple opposing factions.
Loyalty cannot be demanded, only won
The world of The Witch Roads continues to expand in this sequel, and I really enjoyed seeing the characters step into unfamiliar territory. There are plenty of unexpected alliances, betrayals, and discoveries that kept the story moving and made me curious about where everything was headed.
I especially enjoyed the political side of the story and watching Gevulin navigate complicated situations with diplomacy rather than simply relying on strength. Elen’s journey also adds a more emotional layer as she’s forced to confront parts of her past. There’s a lot happening here, but it makes for an engaging continuation and left me excited to see what comes next.
