Review: House of Night Comics 1-5 bind up

Book Description

July 17, 2012 House of Night
Until recently, Zoey Redbird was an average high-school student worrying about grades, boys, and breakouts. But priorities have a way of changing when you're Marked as a vampyre, enroll in the vampyre academy House of Night, and have to figure out a whole new social hierarchy, affinities for elemental magic, and physiological changes that make you crave blood! Based on the international bestselling series of novels by mother/daughter duo P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast, House of Night: Legacy follows Zoey and her group of devoted friends as they turn to The Fledgling Handbook, a historical vampyre tome, in hopes of better understanding this big, new world of vampyrism.

I can't believe that we now have a House of Night Comic Book.  I downloaded it on my iPad from Dark horse and it was great.  It is so night to SEE what is going on.  This is almost as good as the movie is going to be.  This version of this comic is going to be sold in HARD BACK!  How cool is that?

And on top of it!  Its coming out the day before my birthday!  Happy 30 to me!

Postcard Tuesdays

So Tuesdays have been cycled on my site for so many different things.  From Second Look (where I reread books and give a better or worse rating) to Patch Day (where I talk about things that I want to lol) to now Postcards.

As I am a member of Postcrossing.com  I thought it would be a nice time to add this into my site.  I used to have a secondary site called the Postcrossing Witch.  But then this site took off. And I thought well instead of having two why not just have one.

So here is the first of hopefully a long set of Postcard Tues.

Last week I only got one. I had taken a break from the post carding world and am just now getting back into it.  So with each card you will get a pic and its info.

Book Description

July 3, 2012
Orphaned at the age of six, Jane Williams has grown up in a series of foster homes, learning to survive in the shadows of life. Through hard work and determination, she manages to win a scholarship to the exclusive Birch Grove Academy. There, for the first time, Jane finds herself accepted by a group of friends. She even starts tutoring the headmistress’s gorgeous son, Lucien. Things seem too good to be true.
They are.

The more she learns about Birch Grove’s recent past, the more Jane comes to suspect that there is something sinister going on. Why did the wife of a popular teacher kill herself? What happened to the former scholarship student, whose place Jane took? Why does Lucien’s brother, Jack, seem to dislike her so much?

As Jane begins to piece together the answers to the puzzle, she must find out why she was brought to Birch Grove—and what she would risk to stay there….

Ok this one I LOVED. When I started this book two days ago I had been reading like mad.  I had been 1/2 way though a few books that started out wonderful but then then the plot fizzled out and died of boredom.  I was kinda scared that this one was going to do the same thing.  Being almost 400 pages I was very scared!!!

this review will contain spoilers
But happily I was surprised and loving it by the early chapters.  I will say that this book drips with mystery!  You don't find out what is really going on until 1/2 way through the book.  BUT thats OK!  Marta Acosta does this in such a way that you just love the characters so much that the book could have been 600 pages and would have been great!

I did ask the author if this was a stand alone or a series.  And I am sad to report that it is a standalone. But she is writing a Companion novel lol (pun pun) about one of the characters.  MV or Mary Violet! When I got the tweet saying this I about jumped for joy!  She may not have been a main character in Dark Companion but I LOVE her!!

She has a jena se qua which means that she is Fantabulous!  LOL Read the book and your ill understand!

So without giving anything away!  This book had a few things in common with a few OTHER series out there.

Evernight- This one is a BIG comparison!  As in Evernight you don't find out what is really going on until you are well into the book.

The Vampire Academy & The House of Night-  The comparison for this one is the blooddrinking.  With the relationship that Rose had with Lisa.  This is the same for the relationship that Heath had with Zoey in the House of Night as well.

The House of Night- This one also had a thing in common I believe with the goddess Nyx.  Although it is not her that shows up in this story it is similar.

Well with all of the similarities with these three other series.  Dark Companion was wonderful!  As soon as I finished reading it last night at around 11pm EST. I got on my iPhone and pre-ordered a copy!  I have never done that before. lol.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Although the title is snow white and the huntsman. The bad guy takes the lead in this one. With most of the lines done by everyone BUT our leading lady. As Snow white only had about 10 minutes of lines in a 2 hour movie. Now either it was because she couldn't pass off a good English accent or not. May have been the case. But I guess we won't know.

The effects were OUT OF THIS WORLD AWESOME! But the story just lacked well story. I remember a movie called SNOW WHITE A TALE OF TERROR now that was a good making of this old story.

So sorry Snow you can do scared little girl so well and the panic was great. But you needed some more lines lady.

Ravenna you did great. Never would want to meet your character in a dark alley at night

William great. Although I think ur character was unneeded as she fell for the huntsman
And of course the huntsman sexy as ever.

So as for the ending it could have been better. As let the girl get her man. More than a glance. Come on!!

All in all I liked it but didn't love it. I like the other one better.
