Fantasy and folklore mix with mad science as Abigail’s race to unravel the mystery leads her across the cold cobblestones of nineteenth-century New England, down to the mythical underworld, and deep into her colleagues’ grim histories to battle the most deadly foe she has ever faced.
William Ritter began writing the Jackaby series in the middle of the night when his son was still an infant. After getting up to care for him, Will would lie awake, his mind creating rich worlds and fantasies--such as the one in New Fiddleham. Will lives and teaches in Springfield, Oregon.
I have been a fan of this series since it started and I am very sad to see that this third story just didn't work out for me. The wonderful Mr. Jackaby fell so flat for me that he really was only good for seeing the other world in this story. He missed clues that were right in front of him and really wasnt up to par. The humor that was in the other two books is not here and the attempts left a sour taste in my mouth. The other issue for this book was the plot. It felt like the author didn't know what to do. That they needed a third book so just decided to go with this. It was slow and pretty boring. I will however pick up book four since this is not the last. I am wondering if the story will be brought back to what it was in books one and two. But I'm sad to say that this one just didn't work out for me. The characters were not their normal selves and it just felt like a mess of a plot/story.
