#Review The Blessings by @elisejuska #Giveaway @GrandCentralPub

The BlessingsWhen John Blessing dies and leaves behind two small children, the loss reverberates across his extended family for years to come. His young widow, Lauren, finds solace in her large clan of in-laws, while his brother's wife Kate pursues motherhood even at the expense of her marriage. John's teenage nephew Stephen finds himself involved in an act of petty theft that takes a surprising turn, and nephew Alex, a gifted student, travels to Spain and considers the world beyond his family's Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood. Through departures and arrivals, weddings and reunions, THE BLESSINGS reveals the interior worlds of the members of a close-knit Irish-Catholic family and the rituals that unite them.

Another story about a large family.  3 generations share moments of happiness, loss, birthdays, holidays, and evening being the first grandparents. Each character has their own voice and has their POV to share.  The author did this in a great way so not to be confusing at all.  This is deff a book about how family shapes your life.  It was a joy to read.

#Review The Ice Cream Queen of Orchard Street by @SusanJGilman #Giveaway @GrandCentralPub

The Ice Cream Queen of Orchard Street: A NovelIn 1913, little Malka Treynovsky flees Russia with her family. Bedazzled by tales of gold and movie stardom, she tricks them into buying tickets for America. Yet no sooner do they land on the squalid Lower East Side of Manhattan, than Malka is crippled and abandoned in the street.

Taken in by a tough-loving Italian ices peddler, she manages to survive through cunning and inventiveness. As she learns the secrets of his trade, she begins to shape her own destiny. She falls in love with a gorgeous, illiterate radical named Albert, and they set off across America in an ice cream truck. Slowly, she transforms herself into Lillian Dunkle, "The Ice Cream Queen" -- doyenne of an empire of ice cream franchises and a celebrated television personality.

Lillian's rise to fame and fortune spans seventy years and is inextricably linked to the course of American history itself, from Prohibition to the disco days of Studio 54. Yet Lillian Dunkle is nothing like the whimsical motherly persona she crafts for herself in the media. Conniving, profane, and irreverent, she is a supremely complex woman who prefers a good stiff drink to an ice cream cone. And when her past begins to catch up with her, everything she has spent her life building is at stake.
Susan Jane GilmanSusan Jane Gilman is the author of Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Dress and Kiss My Tiara. Her fiction and essays have received several literary awards. Though she lives in Geneva, Switzerland, she remains, eternally, a child of New York.

This is a laugh out loud read!  I think it has a little to much word use of the word Darlings.  But other than that I didn't have any issue with this one.  The cover is cute and quirky and the story is just brilliant and complicated.  The cover however donesnt really match the story.  But, Im on with that.  This one gives you an insider look at the live and hardships of immigrant life and should not be missed.

{Review} The Geography of You and Me by @JenESmith {Published} @HachetteBooks

The Geography of You and MeLucy and Owen meet somewhere between the tenth and eleventh floors of a New York City
apartment building, on an elevator rendered useless by a citywide blackout. After they're rescued, they spend a single night together, wandering the darkened streets and marveling at the rare appearance of stars above Manhattan. But once the power is restored, so is reality. Lucy soon moves to Edinburgh with her parents, while Owen heads out west with his father.

Lucy and Owen's relationship plays out across the globe as they stay in touch through postcards, occasional e-mails, and -- finally -- a reunion in the city where they first met.

A carefully charted map of a long-distance relationship, Jennifer E. Smith's new novel shows that the center of the world isn't necessarily a place. It can be a person, too.
Jennifer E. Smith is the author of This Is What Happy Looks LikeThe Statistical Probability of Love at First SightThe Storm MakersYou Are Here, and The Comeback Season. She earned a master's degree in creative writing from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, and her work has been translated into twenty-nine languages.

Another great read by author Jennifer E. Smith.  I have all of her other books and I will deff. be buying this one.  This adorable book will challenge you on your thoughts of home.  Like the old saying goes ' You can never go home again ' this book will challage you to think more of the saying ' Home is where the heart is ' vs. where you are.  This is a great little book about showing you that home isn't where you are but who you are with.

{Review} Reality Boy @AS_King

Reality Boy

Reality Boy Gerald Faust knows exactly when he started feeling angry: the day his mother invited a reality television crew into his five-year-old life. Twelve years later, he’s still haunted by his rage-filled youth—which the entire world got to watch from every imaginable angle—and his anger issues have resulted in violent outbursts, zero friends, and clueless adults dumping him in the special education room at school.

Nothing is ever going to change. No one cares that he’s tried to learn to control himself, and the girl he likes has no idea who he really is. Everyone’s just waiting for him to snap…and he’s starting to feel dangerously close to doing just that.

In this fearless portrayal of a boy on the edge, highly acclaimed Printz Honor author A.S. King explores the desperate reality of a former child “star” who finally breaks free of his anger by creating possibilities he never knew he deserved.

Biography

A.S. King is the author of the highly acclaimed ASK THE PASSENGERS, 2012 ALA Top Ten Book for Young Adults EVERYBODY SEES THE ANTS, and 2011 Michael L. Printz Honor Book PLEASE IGNORE VERA DIETZ. She is also the author of the ALA Best Books for Young Adults DUST OF 100 DOGS and the upcoming REALITY BOY as well as a collection of award-winning short stories for adults, MONICA NEVER SHUTS UP.

After a decade living self-sufficiently and teaching literacy to adults in Ireland, she now lives deep in the Pennsylvania woods with her husband and children. Look for Amy's piece in DEAR BULLY and in upcoming anthologies BREAK THESE RULES, RIPPEROLOGY, and INITIATION. (And brace yourself for 2014's MAX BLACK.) Find more at www.as-king.com.

This story was just amazing and messed up!  I loved the story and read this one in a day!  We all wonder what happens to these kids that grow up in the face of the world and Reality Boy gives a good idea.  It was fast paced and wonderful!
