#BookReview: For Girls Who Walk through Fire by Kim DeRose

Synopsis: Those who would suppress and destroy you stand not a chance when confronted with the power that lies within these pages . . .

Elliott D’Angelo-Brandt is sick and tired of putting up with it all. Every week, she attends a support group for teen victims of sexual assault, but all they do is talk. Elliott’s done with talking. What she wants is justice.

And she has a plan for getting it: a spell book that she found in her late mom’s belongings that actually works. Elliott recruits a coven of fellow survivors from the group. She, Madeline, Chloe, and Bea don’t have much in common, but they are united in their rage at a system that heaps judgments on victims and never seems to punish those who deserve it.

As they each take a turn casting a hex against their unrepentant assailants, the girls find themselves leaning on each other in ways they never expected—and realizing that revenge has heavy implications. Each member of the coven will have to make a choice: continue down the path of magical vigilantism or discover what it truly means to claim their power.

For Girls Who Walk Through Fire is a fierce, deeply moving novel about perseverance in the face of injustice and the transformational power of friendship.

#BookBlitz: The World in my Eyes by Kayode Michael Arimoro @RABTBookTours

Self-Help, Self Reflection

Date Published: 5/25/2022

We all have a certain role to play in what we want the world to look like. What the world looks and feels like today is because of our actions – or inactions; there is always a price to pay for both. The need to understand that we are responsible for what the world is today cannot be overemphasized. We are either living in it carelessly, carefully scheming and orchestrating conflicts that will last many generations, or transferring in our young ones hatred about others which they, moving forward, transfer into theirs.

‘The World in My Eyes’ is a masterpiece by Kayode Michael Arimoro as he, through his experiences and reflections, is making a conscious effort to urge everyone to pause for a moment, take account of how our actions and inactions have impacted the world, and make a conscious effort to making the world a better place than we met it.

#BookReview: The Dangerous Ones by @LJ_Blackwood

Synopsis: A romantic historical fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Lauren Blackwood, set in the American Civil War with vampires and people with demigod-like abilities.

1863, Pennsylvania

War doesn’t scare Jerusalem—she’s a Saint. Thanks to powerful demigod-style reflexes, endurance, and strength, she’s fearless. And ever since the Confederates declared civil war, partnering with the vampires who benefitted off slavery, she and her battalion of Saints are essential to the Union army.

Jerusalem herself had been enslaved by a vampire, escaping North only after her family was murdered. She knows the enemy better, hates the enemy more than anyone in her battalion, and has been using it to her advantage since she joined the war a year ago. More than anything she wants revenge, but if she can help Black people gain freedom and equality without having to steal it for themselves like she had to, then all the better.

But she never expects to have to team up with a vampire to do it. Alexei is one of those handsome, arrogant Ancient Vampires. But he’s on the Union’s side, and in the year they've known each other, has never done anything but prove he’s on hers.

Together, they set out to change the course of the war and take down the vampire who destroyed everyone Jerusalem loved. But for her, it’s about more than justice.

It's about killing a god.

My time with Bella McIntosh was only supposed to last a week—I needed to focus on the family business—but I’d soon realize I couldn’t let her go.
She haunted my dreams and drove me to the point of distraction.
That’s how I found myself on the verge of saying ‘I do’, but deep down, I knew I couldn’t go through with it.
Leaving my bride at the altar wasn’t part of the plan, but I had to follow my heart … which was on the other side of the world.
I could only hope she’d never forget the time we shared.

Bella
I had everything I ever wanted … except him.
Matteo Mancini.
He was supposed to be a vacation fling, but he turned out to be so much more.
We promised each other forever, but our time ended before we got that chance.
I left my heart in Italy and returned home to focus on the life I was building. All the while pretending I was over him, but I wasn’t. I never would be.
We lived a world apart … if only our love was strong enough to withstand the obstacles that stood in our way.
