{Review} Stung by @WiggB {Giveaway} @bwkids

Stung (Stung, #1)There is no cure for being stung.

Fiona doesn’t remember going to sleep. But when she opens her eyes, she discovers her entire world has been altered—her house is abandoned and broken, and the entire neighborhood is barren and dead. Even stranger is the tattoo on her right hand—a black oval with five marks on either side—that she doesn’t remember getting but somehow knows she must cover at any cost. She’s right.

Those bearing the tattoo have turned into mindless, violent beasts that roam the streets and sewers, preying upon the unbranded while a select few live protected inside a fortress-like wall, their lives devoted to rebuilding society and killing all who bear the mark.

Now Fiona has awakened branded, alone—and on the wrong side of the wall.

Biography

Bethany Wiggins has always been an avid reader, but not an avid writer. She failed ninth grade English because she read novels instead of doing her homework. In high school, she sat alone at lunch and read massive hardback fantasy novels (Tad Williams and Robert Jordan anyone?). It wasn't until the end of her senior year that the other students realized she was reading fiction--not the Bible

Several years later, Bethany's sister dared her to start writing an hour a day until she completed a novel. Bethany wrote a seven-hundred page fantasy novel that she wisely let no one read--but it taught her how to write. The rest is history.

I fell in love with Wiggins book Shifting and still hope that it gets turned into a NA series!  (or ya) So of course when I found out that she was writing a new series I jumped at the chance to read it.  Now I got the chance to be on the tour for book two Cured. (Will post tomorrow)  I am so happy to be able to give you these reviews and this great giveaway!

This was such a wonderful book!  I loved Bethany's other book Shifting and was over joyed that she had written another book.  And this one being a series.  I had the opportunity to read then one after the other and I must say that this series will knock your socks off!  This book is unlike anything I have read and I couldn't put it down until the last page.

Dont forget to check back tomorrow for my review of Cured and join us for the #ReadOn March 22 at 4pm to chat with the author!!

{Review} Don't Look Back by @JLArmentrout {Giveaway} @DisneyHyperion

Don't Look BackSamantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all-popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend.

Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it's one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took "mean girl" to a whole new level, and it's clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She's getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she's falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn't just buried deep inside of Sam's memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

To say that this was the best mystery book I have read in some time is an understatement.  It was a powerful story about a girl who is found on the road and has no memory of who she is.  Through her struggles she finds that she was one of those Mean Girls and the entire school hated her.  Her mom and dad don't love each other anymore and her mom drinks far to much.  But through it all she turns herself around and starts becoming a better person and even falling for the boy that works for her rich family.  This story had twists and turns and an ending that you won't see coming!

Suspense, Thriller, for the teen crowd!

The Eslites, The Arrival

“Yes, thank you. It’s nice to be out of the scrubs.” For whatever reason, I grinned when our eyes met. I’d never paid much attention to Dimas’ features, but the more I stared at him, I noticed how young he looked. If not for the slight five o’clock shadow, I’d have to say he wasn’t older than twenty. I wasn’t sure, though, because all the Eslites had flawless skin.
“You are quite beautiful.” He arched a brow and sipped his water.
“Thanks.” No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t tear my gaze from his. It was as though he had me in a trance. I noticed everything about him. From his debonair smile, to his square jaw, and his perfectly sculpted body that belonged in a Calvin Klein underwear ad. The guy was hot. What the heck was wrong with me?
That freakin’ alien might rape me.
I had to be losing it. He was pure evil. Wasn’t he?
I dug my fingernails into my palm, and the pain broke our connection.
“Consider them an early birthday gift.”
What? How did he know my birthdate? Oh, wait, they’d poked and prodded every hole in
my body, of course he would know my birthday. But why would he observe an earthly custom? For half a minute I didn’t say anything, just kept staring at the shaggy, black rug beneath my feet. Hoping and praying he would let me leave as soon as possible, virginity intact.
I managed to squeak out another, “Thank you.”
“I also have another gift for you. I thought it would be better if I told you in person.”
I immediately glanced at him but didn’t meet his gaze, directly.
Please don’t rape me.
Please don’t rape me.
“What’s that?” I asked, feigning courage, even though my entire body shivered. I tapped my

feet repeatedly, and I leaned forward, ready to make a run for it. Every muscle in my gut clenched, my thighs tensed, and I pressed my knees shut.
“I thought—”
“No matter what you do to me, I’m not going to copulate with you,” I blurted. “At least, not willingly.”
For several seconds, Dimas said nothing. Then, he did something I hadn’t expected. He laughed. “Well, that’s fine, because I didn’t invite you here to have sex with me.”
“Oh.” I felt the color drain from my face as I almost died of embarrassment.
“I’m allowing you to go home for a few weeks, unless you would rather stay here and have sex with me.” His playful tone was disarming and unnerving, at once.
“What?” Excited and relieved, I did the unthinkable. I started to consider his offer.
With a chuckle, he glanced at the glass in his hand. Slowly, in small movements, he swirled the water, the way my dad did a fine wine, and for some strange reason I focused on it. The urge to flee subsided, and I relaxed, as the tension in my shoulders seemed to evaporate. Gradually, my heart rate slowed, my ears no longer rang, and my mouth was no longer dry. I imagined brushing my fingers through his soft, sandy blonde hair. Allowing the warmth of his breath to tickle the curve of my neck as he pressed his full lips to my skin. Feel his strong arms wrapped around me as my body melted into his. When Dimas set the glass on a nearby table, I snapped to attention.
What the heck just happened?
How did I let my mind go there? I couldn’t possibly have the hot’s for the guy. Yet, I was crushing on him, I knew it, and I hated myself for it.
“You are scheduled to depart Nidas on Sunday afternoon.” He smiled, and my stomach flip-

flopped. “I’m sure your family will be happy to see you. Besides, I think you need a little break.” Through some invisible haze his words came to me, and I blinked a few times to make sure I was still in his living room. Then my mind processed what he had said, and though I should have
panicked, I remained eerily calm. Was the warden really offering me a prison break?
Crap. Did he know about my plans for escape?
Was it some sort of trap? Were there conditions tied to his surprise?
“That’s—um, great. Thanks. When can I leave?” I tried my best to act cool. I started to stand, but he stayed me with an upraised hand, so I sat on the couch, clutching the edge.
“You will return to your quarters in a few minutes, but I want to set a few ground rules,” he said, as he rose from his chair.
Although I tried not to study him, I couldn’t stop admiring the ripples of muscles beneath his tight fitting shirt, not to mention the spandex-type pants that outlined every curve from the waist down. And I mean every curve. When he paused before an unlit fireplace, I glanced at my glass of water and noticed silver speckles floating on the surface.
Had he given me something?
Had I been drugged?
Because no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t fight an uncontrollable desire to watch him.
The lights dimmed and the fire ignited behind him, bathing the room in a fiery orange glow, but the air remained bitterly cold. A frightening chill shivered over my arms and legs.
Was I hallucinating?
“Okay, sure.” I set the glass on the coffee table and rested my arms on my knees. Clasping my hands, I prayed for strength.

{Review} Promise of Shadows by @tehawesomersace

Promise of ShadowsZephyr Mourning has never been very good at being a Harpy. She’d rather watch reality TV than learn forty-seven ways to kill a man, and she pretty much sucks at wielding magic. Zephyr was ready for a future pretending to be a normal human instead of a half-god assassin. But all that changes when her sister is murdered—and she uses a forbidden dark power to save herself from the same fate. Zephyr is on the run from a punishment worse than death when an unexpected reunion with a childhood friend (a surprisingly HOT friend) changes everything. Because it seems like Zephyr might just be the Nyx, a dark goddess made flesh that is prophesied to change the power balance. For hundreds of years the half-gods have lived in fear, and Zephyr is supposed to change that. But how is she supposed to save everyone when she can’t even save herself?

This book I was scared of.  Although I do love the cover it isn't out there like a lot of them. But unlike a lot of covers this one incorporates the book's story which was great!  I loved the characters in this book!  Its a stand alone but it ends in a way that the author could come back and add more to their story!  The plot with a combo of all the deities and mythical creatures was just so wonderfully done!!  The plot was fast paced and the ending was great!  This is deff an author to keep an eye out for!  And if you loved The Goddess Test, The Starcrossed Series, and those of the like then this is Deff a book you should grab!

Biography

Amy Talkington is an award-winning screenwriter and director living in Los Angeles. Before all that she wrote about music for magazines like Spin, Ray Gun, Interview, and Seventeen (mostly just as a way to get to hang out with rock stars). As a teenager in Dallas, Texas, Amy painted lots of angsty self-portraits, listened to The Velvet Underground and was difficult enough that her parents finally let her go to boarding school on the East Coast. Liv, Forever is her first novel.

A YA Mystery with a hint of Paranormal.  Which was a recipe for a great book.  Although this one had a little more fluff than what I would have liked.  It was a wonderful read.  And I love that the cover really ties into the books main character.  This one will draw in both teens and adults so deff pick it up and give it a try.  It was deff worth the read!

Guest Post with Amy Talkington
When not writing books (or blog posts), I’m a screenwriter (and filmmaker). At this point,  I’ve written more than fifteen scripts “for hire” and several others for myself (not to mention the many short films I’ve written and directed). And now I’ve written my first book, Liv, Forever. People have asked me why I decided to write a book and what the difference is between screenwriting and book writing so I thought I’d share some thoughts about that with you here.

I actually first imagined Liv, Forever as a screenplay. I wrote up a fifteen page treatment on the characters and story before I realized I needed to write it as a book. Why? I think the answers to that question will help illuminate some of the differences between writing books and movies.

A)  I really wanted to explore Liv’s voice.
Screenwriting is incredibly prescriptive. You cannot go into someone’s head. You cannot even describe a room beyond the bare essentials. Looking at the story I’d crafted for Liv, I realized that I really wanted to go deeper. I wanted to explore the thoughts in Liv’s head. I wanted to know how she felt when she realized she was dead. I wanted to understand why she felt no capacity for love. I wanted to know how she saw the world. I knew I could get so much deeper into her thoughts and her unique perspective in a book.

B) I wanted to create a layered ghost mythology and history for the school.
I knew that I needed a detailed and twisty history and mythology for the school. This was something that I hadn’t cracked in the outline and I knew would be tough to crack in a screenplay without practically writing a book about it first. So, I decided I might as well just write that book!

C.) I’d always wanted to write a book.
Most screenwriters I know would like to write a book someday. At least just one. We are writers after all and we love books as well as movies. But there is another, more practical, reason (in two parts): books don’t get messed with and books get published. Working as a screenwriter for the studios (as I have for about ten years) can be very challenging because we’re constantly (and nearly always) rewritten. No matter who you are or how big your credits, your writing is rarely considered sacred (or even very important!).

And not only are you rewritten, but your work is seldom produced. Of those fifteen scripts I mentioned that I’ve written, only three have been produced. Just imagine writing fifteen novels for publishing houses (doing all the multiple revisions) but having only three actually published. (Side note: I have several studio projects in “active development” and hope to see at least one made this year!)

So you can imagine the appeal of having a book that will be published (just as I wrote it!). This is an uncommon experience for a screenwriter. And, I want to do it again, no doubt. But, at the same time, I’m also busy trying to turn Liv, Forever into a movie!
