To escape, Eleanor boards a steamer bound for France. There she meets Oliver, a young man who claims to have known her brother. But Oliver harbors a dangerous secret involving necromancy and black magic that entices Eleanor beyond words. If she can resist him, she'll be fine. But when she arrives in Paris, she finds that the Dead have taken over, and there's a whole new evil lurking. And she is forced to make a deadly decision that will go against everything the Spirit-Hunters stand for.

In Paris, there's a price for this darkness strange and lovely, and it may have Eleanor paying with her life.

Susan Dennard

Biography

Susan Dennard is a writer, reader, lover of animals, and eater of cookies. She used to be a marine biologist, but now she writes novels. And not novels about fish either, but novels about kick-butt heroines and swoon-worthy rogues (she really likes swoon-worthy rogues).

She lives in the Midwest with her French husband and Irish setter, and her debut, SOMETHING STRANGE AND DEADLY, is now available from HarperTeen.

My Review-3 Stars

Take It or Leave It

Well I have to say that I'm torn with this one.  It was good but not great.  It suffers from that book two  sucky syndrome.  Although some great things do happy and well if you want to understand book three you kinda need to read it.  But I think I would pretty much would have rather borrowed it vs. buying it new.

Go Into This One Knowing

over 50% of the book is bogged down and it could have been shortened.  Not much happens of consequence. And I think it could have been put into book one and book three.

Darkness has come to the City of Light. . . .
With her brother dead and her mother on the verge of insanity, Eleanor Fitt is utterly alone. Even the Spirit-Hunters—Joseph, Jie, and the handsome, enigmatic Daniel—have fled to Paris. So when Eleanor begins to hear the vicious barking of hounds and see images of haunting yellow eyes, she fears the worst—that the Dead, and the necromancer Marcus, are coming for her.
To escape and search out the Spirit-Hunters, Eleanor boards a steamer bound for France. There she meets Oliver, a young man who claims to have known her brother. Though friendly, Oliver entices Eleanor with necromancy and black magic, yet as long as she can resist his powerful temptation, she'll be fine. But when she arrives in Paris, she finds that the Dead have taken over the city . . . and there's a whole new evil lurking. With the body count rising, Eleanor is forced to make a deadly decision that will go against everything the Spirit-Hunters stand for.
In Paris, there's a price for this darkness strange and lovely . . . and it may have Eleanor paying with her life.
In this spellbinding sequel to Something Strange and Deadly, Susan Dennard delivers a thrilling mix of intrigue, romance, and revenge, all set against the wonderfully enchanting backdrop of nineteenth-century Paris.

Another series I've been wanting to read though I am getting a little bored with all the book with girls with fancy dresses on that for the most part mean nothing to the book. But none the less it sounds interesting...

Looks like a good book to add to my summer reading list!

I liked the first book and have the second and third one in my tbr pile. I was afraid this one would suffer the middle book blues.

These are some of the pretty covers that I love. I;m wanting to read this one. I read the first one back when it first came out so I may have to do a read reread.

The first two books I have up for trade on my Pinterest

Just bought book one and would love to see this on my shelf too.

I really hate when there is an amazing first book and then an okay second book. It gives me sad feels.
