Laurie Boyle Crompton

Biography

Laurie Boyle Crompton is the author of BLAZE (Sourcebooks/Feb 2013) and THE REAL PROM QUEENS OF WESTFIELD HIGH (Sourcebooks/Feb 2014). ADRENALINE CRUSH will be published by FSG/Macmillan on September 23, 2014. Laurie caught the writing bug back in high school while reading an essay she'd composed aloud to her class. Her classmates laughed in all the right places. It was like the opposite of that nightmare where everyone laughs while you stand there in your underwear. She was giddy with power.

Laurie graduated first in her class from St. John's University with a major in English and minor in Journalism. Since then she's written for national magazines like ALLURE as well as numerous trade publications and has appeared on Good Day New York several times as a Toy Expert. Yes. That is a real thing that people sometimes get paid to be.

She lives near NYC, but maintains a secret identity in New Paltz, NY where she and her family can often be found climbing over rocks or tromping through the forest. You can visit her at lboylecrompton.com

About the Book

Adrenaline Crush
When a daredevil teen pushes herself too far, she must choose between two boys: the one who wants to keep her safe, and the one who dares her to return to her old self.

Seventeen-year-old Dyna comes from a family of risk takers and is an avid thrill-seeker herself, until the day she splinters her ankle in a terrible fall. Her whole life goes from mountain biking and rock climbing to sitting at home and attending group sessions at the bizarre alternative healing center that her hippie mother found. The boy who witnessed Dyna’s accident believes her injury is a wakeup call and he encourages her mild new lifestyle, but a young Afghanistan War veteran she meets at the healing center pushes her to start taking chances again. Forced to face the consequences of her daredevil impulses, Dyna finds herself in danger of risking the one thing she’s always treated with caution—her heart.

But when she arrives in Peculiar, Missouri, Claire feels an overwhelming sense of danger, and her fears are confirmed when she discovers the body of a popular high school student in the icy woods behind the school, surrounded by the town’s feral cats. While everyone is quick to say it was an accident, Claire knows there’s more to it, and vows to learn the truth about what happened.

But the closer she gets to uncovering the mystery, the closer she also gets to realizing a frightening reality about herself and the damage she truly sustained in that Chicago alley….

Reviews of Feral:

Psychological thrillers always intrigue me so when I first seen this, I knew it was one that I was going to have to read. It sounded so sinister and the feral cat aspect just made it seem even more creepy so I was looking forward to picking it up.

My initial thoughts on finishing Feral was to shiver because wow those cats were freaky!! Then it was to be in awe of the authors mind. This book was just mind boggling!!

"Feral" maintains its power over readers, much like those horror movies of which teens are so fond, through its psychological hold. Whether Claire is going crazy or is the victim of sinister events is what makes the story really work.

Biography

Official Bio:

Mindy McGinnis is an assistant YA librarian who lives in Ohio and cans her own food. She graduated from Otterbein University magna cum laude with a BA in English Literature and Religion.

The Slightly-Less-Official Version, with Better Details:

Mindy grew up in the woods, and had a deep desire to see if she could survive out there on her own if the situation ever presented itself. That never happened, and the introduction of the internet has quelled that urge.

She loves being a writer, because it's the only occupation where you can legitimately stare into space and claim to be working.

About the Book

In a Handful of Dust (Not a Drop to Drink, #2)The only thing bigger than the world is fear.

Lucy’s life by the pond has always been full. She has water and friends, laughter and the love of her adoptive mother, Lynn, who has made sure that Lucy’s childhood was very different from her own. Yet it seems Lucy’s future is settled already—a house, a man, children, and a water source—and anything beyond their life by the pond is beyond reach.

When disease burns through their community, the once life-saving water of the pond might be the source of what’s killing them now. Rumors of desalinization plants in California have lingered in Lynn’s mind, and the prospect of a “normal” life for Lucy sets the two of them on an epic journey west to face new dangers: hunger, mountains, deserts, betrayal, and the perils of a world so vast that Lucy fears she could be lost forever, only to disappear in a handful of dust.

In this companion to Not a Drop to Drink, Mindy McGinnis thrillingly combines the heart-swelling hope of a journey, the challenges of establishing your own place in the world, and the gripping physical danger of nature in a futuristic frontier.
