3 Star #Review of City of a Thousand Dolls (Bhinian Empire #1) by @miriamforster

An exotic treat set in an entirely original, fantastical world brimming with deadly mystery, forbidden romance, and heart-stopping adventure.

Nisha was abandoned at the gates of the City of a Thousand Dolls when she was just a child. Now sixteen, she lives on the grounds of the isolated estate, where orphan girls apprentice as musicians, healers, courtesans, and, if the rumors are true, assassins. Nisha makes her way as Matron’s assistant, her closest companions the mysterious cats that trail her shadow. Only when she begins a forbidden flirtation with the city’s handsome young courier does she let herself imagine a life outside the walls. Until one by one, girls around her start to die.

Before she becomes the next victim, Nisha decides to uncover the secrets that surround the girls’ deaths. But by getting involved, Nisha jeopardizes not only her own future in the City of a Thousand Dolls—but her own life.

I tried so hard to keep with this one.  Ive had it FOREVER it seems.  And I finally get to it and then I'm crushed.  The only thing that kept me going in this one for as long as it did was that the cats talked and I really wanted to know what was going on with them.  But after reaching a little more than half.   The story for me just wasn't going anywhere it was bogged down by the MC trying to figure out the murders and dealing with being sold off.

If the story would have been faster paced I think I would have die hard loved it.  But with the way it sits it got boring very quickly.

I really loved the setting and the story history it was fab!  and I'm so sad to see it leave.

So this one is a 3 star for me because I know some people don't care about slow stories so they might really enjoy it.
