Caraval (Untitled #1) by @SGarberGirl #BookReview

This title will be released on January 31, 2017.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval―Stephanie Garber’s sweeping tale of two sisters who escape their ruthless father when they enter the dangerous intrigue of a legendary game.

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.

Stephanie Garber loves Disneyland because it’s the one place on earth where she feels as if the fantastical stories she loves to write about could actually come to life. When she's not writing young adult fantasy, she teaches creative writing at a private college in northern California, where she’s known for turning assignments into games and taking students on field trips that involve book signings. Caraval is her first novel for young adults. She would love to hear from you on social media.

When I started out with this book I almost DNFed it. I wasn't to wowed for this story where the only world building we really got all centered around Caraval. I really wished that we would have gotten more information and back story about the Conquered Islands and the world that surrounds them.  That being said I did hang on and I did end up enjoying the story. Parts of this story made me feel like it was a retelling of Alice in Wonderland. That would be if the Mad Hatter had become king and well went freaking murderous crazy!!!!!!! Other parts had me remembering Beauty and the Beast.  But I won't ruin it for you. The beast isn't who you think it is.

This is one high powered adventure where the story will have you very confused to start out with. But I realized that was the way it was supposed to be!!! You weren't supposed to know all the ends and out of Caraval that was what made it exciting! The mystery that surrounds this event made me want to turn the pages.  Now that ending on the other hand made me want to scream. Which I did in the car as we were coming home! Ya its a MAJOR cliffhanger so you HAVE been WARNED!!!!!

The characters were fabulous! I really loved everyone! I really can't single one chapter out from another. However Scarlet's sister really didn't get much book time other than the start and the end. Which really worked out great. I do hope that the next book is in her POV! I also hope that she comes clean about all that happened. As for the other two characters I won't spoil it for you. I hope we get to see way more of them and find out all the history surrounding Legend etc.

If your looking for an out of this world adventure with a major mystery! Where you don't know if the characters are going to come out on top. Then this is the book you will really want to read! It will knock you on your head and throw you for a loop all at the same time! I couldn't put it down and neither will you!
