The Fat Man's Monologue by Aliza Galkin-Smith #BookReview

A popular history lecturer realizes at mid-life that he is not accountable to anyone, and decides to pursue his great passions: food, women and human history. Traveling through northern Italy, Wales, Devon and other locations, he learns and writes about food and the colorful stories behind it. In a charming, funny and witty monologue, he touches on his cravings for food and women, with detours into history.

The Fat Man’s Monologue offers a portrait of a fat man who cannot be ignored. It is a book about food and about people who like to eat; a book about unique places and extraordinary recipes; about the paraphernalia of food, people, places and events, about love of life and food, and delightful locations, journeys and recipes. It is a book for lovers of food and life, whether fat or slim, that offers an inspiringly optimistic and humanistic look at life, through the eyes of a charismatic hero-narrator who will stay with you long after the last page.

Twenty four hours a day are not enough for Aliza Galkin-Smith and her many activities in various fields. After initially working as a computer engineer, she retrained as an art therapist. As an artist she is engaged with painting and sculpture. Her favorite hobbies are gardening and growing vegetables and she devotes time to cooking. But the love of her life is writing, the occupation that connects her many residences and relationships. Writing is the creative and permanent activity that has accompanied her for decades, more than anything else she has done in her life; since she learned to read and write, she has recorded her dreams and thoughts in daily writing, and in recent years she has ventured into publishing her books. Soliloquy of a Fat Man is her sixth book. She is happily married to her fourth husband for decades and is proud of her daughter.

This was an interesting little book. I really loved the idea that you really don't need to worry about what others think. You are only accountable to yourself and you can pretty much do what you wish. (within the limits of the law). Realizing this has a freeing effect and I really love how the author incorporated food into this little read. This book is full of vivid places that the main character journeys to. Full of great food, and foodies, exotic destinations, events, and of course recipes! This book had a great cast of characters and I read it in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. If your looking for a light funny weird read then look no further than this one right here. This book will not disappoint. Its a wonderful book for the true foodie at heart! So pick this book up and let it inspire you and your food!
