#BookReview: Reign of the Fallen (Reign of the Fallen #1) by @SG_Marsh @RazorbillBooks with @cursedreader

About the Book:

Odessa is one of Karthia's master necromancers, catering to the kingdom's ruling Dead. Whenever a noble dies, it's Odessa's job to raise them by retrieving their souls from a dreamy and dangerous shadow world called the Deadlands. But there is a cost to being raised--the Dead must remain shrouded, or risk transforming into zombie-like monsters known as Shades. If even a hint of flesh is exposed, the grotesque transformation will begin.

A dramatic uptick in Shade attacks raises suspicions and fears among Odessa's necromancer community. Soon a crushing loss of one of their own reveals a disturbing conspiracy: someone is intentionally creating Shades by tearing shrouds from the Dead--and training them to attack. Odessa is faced with a terrifying question: What if her necromancer's magic is the weapon that brings Karthia to its knees?

Notes and Opinions: Part way through reading this I realized that the author had another book out so I knew I had to get it. (its on the way right now!)  This book was just so fantastic. It started out with a bang and ended with one as well.  One thing that I would like to note about this book is that eventhough it was the first to a series it had a start a middle and an end. If this was a stand alone (glad its not) but if it was it would have been a good ending to the story.  So many series do not do that and they use book one to just set everything up and drag it all out.  This one didn't do that and it was a breath of fresh air.

This story is one that is an epic fantasy about people with sapphire eyes that have special powers. I really liked the distinction of who had powers and who didnt. It made things a little eaiser. The other thing this book had was diverse characters. The main character was bisexual and it worked so well for her.  The sexual orientation in this title is done so well that it flows off the pages right into your heart.  The story is full of humor, danger, action, and some of the best friendships I ahve read in a while. Toss in the deadlands (pretty much the afterlife or the bridge between the afterlife and the living) and some FREAKING creepy monster that want to rip you from limb to limb and this was one recipe for an amazing story!

I loved Odessa to freaking death and when she lost people I cried right along with her.  I would love to have a story about the Princess just becuase I fell so in love with her and I though Odessa was going to as well. This story never went where I thought it was going to go so it made it stay full of surprises.  From start to finish this book was full of love, loss, and some great action and I couldnt put it down and neither will you.

I do kind of wish they wouldnt have used a pink cover for this one as I think boys and girls would love this. But I dont know to many boys that would want to carry around a pink book. Although I may be wrong since I am not one.

This book as a whole touches on the path of loving and losing and learning how to grieve after losing someone you love.  As well as how to move past it and become stronger.  Odessa did a lot of fast growing up in this title and I cant wait to see where she goes.   Another character in this one that I loved was the bear that for the life of me I cant remember his name.

In the end this author did such an amazing job with this one that I would not be surpirsed in the slighted if it got snatched up for a movie or tv show. Becuase it was just the a good. The world building is some of the best I have seen and man I have read a ton of fantasy books.  And this one kicks butt!!

"Odessa. Sparrow. I've met a few people who couldn't handle you, but never the other way around."

“We’re stronger together. I could never walk away...I’m not going on a boat without you. Not tomorrow, not in a year. We don’t get forever”

“Learning is what makes things fun.”
