Maureen Johnson is the New York Times bestselling author of over a dozen YA novels, including 13 Little Blue Envelopes, The Name of the Star, and Truly Devious. She is also the co-host of Says Who, a political podcast about the aftermath of the 2016 election. She lives in New York City.


Noteworthy experiences while reading this book: Although this was for the young adult crowd I think that adults would also gain knowlege from these short stories as well. I am 13 (almost 14) and I loved it. I think that I would love to have an extra copy of this to give to my class before I go into high school.

Notes and Opinions: This book had a great combo of songs, poems, essays, and more and although it is made for teens my mom also loved it as well. In our world where teens are shooting up schools and eating Tide Pods its time to make America Smart Again.  This book really gives young readers great ideas to have hope and to be better than the previous generation. It gives teens the empowerment to speak out! Just becuase you are young doesn't mean that you are stupid or that your thoughts don't matter becuase they do.  Be active in the world you live in!
