#BookReview: The Witchbeast (Awakening, #1) by Samantha Eklund

Synopsis: For nineteen years I thought I was a human orphan in a world of magical elitists—until I was shot in the head and didn’t die.
Leaving behind my miserable life of tempting men as an escort and then robbing them blind, I find myself fighting to survive in a whirlwind world of magic and deceit as I learn the answers to questions I had never wanted to ask.

On the run with my best friend, a handsome mysterious stranger, and his best friend, it seems like the more I find out about myself, the less I want to know. In fact, I think I liked it better when I thought I was a nobody.

Whatever we’ve awoken in me is dark and bloodthirsty, and the more we learn about it and its nefarious history, the more I wonder if I’ll ever be normal again.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
My Review: Parts of this one were slower than others but overall the story was well paced.  I loved the characters and the story was fantastic.  A first in the series this book does a great job at introducing us to the world and the characters.  I do feel that this one didn't feel complete but I know that can happen sometimes with series.  I hope that in the next one we get more world building and more background.  This book made me want to know more and I can not wait for the next one.

About the Author

Samantha Eklund is an author who envisions a better future for fellow creatives. She loves to understand + encourage others, and happens to be unwaveringly determined in everything she does. In college, she majored in Religious Studies. Her sporadic job choices since then have ranged from finance, marketing and graphic design, all the way to human resources (no, not the annoying kind).
To her surprise and delight, she has been described as a generous and badass dreamer (among other things). When she s not writing, she s riding. Her street bike, dirt bike, horses, boats anything that can get the adrenaline going.
